The Blood-Shooting Horned Lizard
Added 2023-10-20 10:15:01 +0000 UTCAs is often the case when I cover an unusual animal in a Short, the horned lizard is suffering from population decline. While they’re excellent at defending themselves against four-legged predators, they haven’t yet developed a defence against the kind of habitat change or destruction that’s often caused by humans. Sometimes a faceful of foul-tasting eyeblood just isn’t enough, it seems!

Ooh, that's a good one. Duelling in general has a very interesting (and somewhat crazy) history. Would be good to cover it sometime

2023-10-20 16:03:45 +0000 UTCBeing the animal nerd that I am, naturally this is something I was already familiar with. Fun fact: The horned lizard is also often referred to as the horny toad. I also have a cousin who happens to have a horned lizard with a kink in its tail as a pet.
