His birth parents abandoned him, Piper treats him like complete trash, he starves himself in a fit of self-hatred and one of his best friends is fighting for his life. Of all the kits, he easily has the most tragic life IMO. At least Kira generally has an optimistic outlook on things despite suffering many similar hardships.

Though now I'm curious as to how much thought she put into making sure the water balloons stayed as water balloons in such cold weather. Throwing ice balloons could easily result in all sorts of terrible outcomes.
