Wiseman looks good. This was the debut I was hoping for. Can’t believe sports analysts wanted us to draft Melo and Hayes 🙄. I do have a concern about his hands. Could be nerves but I don’t think he catches the ball well and he bobbled away a few opportunities because of it.
As for my man EP, not sure where the aggressive, confident and bouncy rookie I saw last season has gone but I hope he makes an appearance soon. Hard to judge this team without Draymond but I think Mulder may have to be inserted into lineups for us to stay competitive.

I'll keep watching how Kerr makes adjustments. My biggest fear is that Kerr will be his own worst enemy. I guess the most important question is: What do the Dubs want out of the first half of the season? Do they want wins? Or do they want to mesh more than anything else? I'm Okay with both, but I guess I'll be pretty pissed if the team doesn't look like they are aiming for either.
2020-12-24 16:57:04 +0000 UTC
I had a couple of takeaways from the game. First is we have the talent. The shots just weren’t dropping. Time + Preparation + Execution = Winning. This is only the first game.
Second, this showing was more of a rhythm and chemistry issue than anything. And, as Warriors fans we have become spoiled, we are not used to this growing pain.
And, third, let’s not forget who the F$”&! KD and Kyrie are. They’re going to be a serious problem for the league, as long they can stay out of their feelings. Winning masks a lot of problems. We needed this punch in the mouth to get some act right.

I’m in on the Wiseman excitement! I know there was plenty of garbage time but just how he looked, and moved, he’s still just a kid! he’s 19, barely played any college and he’s so composed. I don’t want to jinx it but the sky’s there limit when he fills out and gets more experience. So stoked.

Kyle O'Brien brought up a great point in his comments above -- "relax into who he is and let it flow"
Everyone else will have to be MORE aggressive defensively than the Guards to make this system work. It's the opposite right now. As well as sharper screen setting and awareness of where Steph is on the floor.

I'm preaching the to the choir about off ball shit but the OKC series in 16 really blew that shit out the water. It's my big pet peeve that we never really adjusted out of that, Durant just made us unstoppable. Shit even Popovich let's players improvise in his system.

IM trying not to get over excited about Wiseman. I know he did a lot in garbage time...... but for a guy who hasnt played an organized game in 13 months, and hasnt played in a game where he had a good feel playing with his team mates since highschool 21-22 months ago. ..... his athletic ability and the way he moved did not look like a 7 footer.

Our spacing only gets worse with Draymond coming back. I just don't understand why Toscano was getting minutes.
The team generated open looks but just couldn't hit anything and I think that's easily sething that will resolve over time. It's easy to overreact after a single game. Paschall needs to come off the bench. Not sure what happened to Wiggins, I was starting to think he was becoming more comfortable with contact.
I'm sure this game meant a lot to Curry's pride, as selfless as he is. But these kind of games just make him even more of a monster later on.
Paradox
2020-12-24 02:56:20 +0000 UTC
Wiggins really need to improve his shooting form or get new coaches. He is shooting like a 90s player with that release after apex and jumping like Paschall sometimes, despite being wide open. His arc seems okay shooting from the corner but from anywhere at top of the key it's just not good. I'm not really worried about much else, I believe he and Melly will adapt to the system when they have more than a few practice sessions together.

A lot of the lassitude I saw from the Dubs felt very “Santa Cruz relaxed vibe”- like everyone loves them just being good people character wise within the organization. Playing Denver and Sactown does not prepare any group of relatively new teammates for playing the likes of KD and Kyrie level intensity with a bunch of qualified young bench players all eager to go about it. And again- it’s early. Kerr did say he expects the team to be better later. Whether Kerr can really coach a team like this remains to be seen. I suppose we will find out

Takeaways
1) Offensive issues due to lack of playmaking and shooting. Good news Draymond will help with playmaking. If he played he could have found Wiseman for at least 2 more lobs this game as well as screened for Steph when he was off-ball (noticed there wasn't as much of that going on), and just found Steph more. Bad news our wings are streaky shooters*hopefully not this cold tho!)
2) Defensive issues caused by communication issues on switches. Again good news, Draymond is probably the best defensive communicator in the game right now, even if the individual defense has slipped
3) Kelly Oubre could turn the momentum of games if fans were allowed in arenas, especially at home, man that guy is electrifying to watch, I said Ooooo at least 3 times in each game he's played for us. Him barely being able to dunk makes his dunks so much more exciting for some reason
4) Wiseman might be the best player in the draft, his confidence was great to see in his first game. I remember in Alchs breakdown the phrase "jump like a jackrabbit" was used and I couldn't unsee that after his first basket. I know its only 1 game but I am worried about his offensive rebounding, he did mistime 3 putback dunks and 1 easy offensive rebound. I'm also worried about how low he gets on offense on the perimeter, its just a bad body posture if he wanted to take a 3 pointer.

I cant explain my disgust with Wiggins showing up to a season opener like that. Im actually not mad at all at Paschall's performance cuz the dude is only in his second year, had the weirdest offseason of anyone's career, and he probably spent most of quarantine not working out and staying ready. We all know the Alch saying, stay ready so you never have to get ready. Well....Paschall didnt do that so now he's probably gonna take 10-15 games to get ready again, so I won't hold much of it against him, especially being a bigger/heavier dude.
But Wiggins???? Honestly what the fuck. I get him not hitting 3s or jumpshots. Was never really his game and it may never be. But completely fluffing and shying away from the rim everytime he got close just enraged me. How is HE gonna not show up to day 1 ready being slim and athletic? Ya'll remember how much we held out hope/optimism for Damian Jones and Jordan Bell? Yeah thats cuz we drafted them and they were rooks with just bad IQ for the game. But Wiggins aint no rook and he doesnt have an excuse to show up with zero energy like that. If he doesnt turn it up to 110 against the Bucks, I think we are in for a slow motion car crash with the "Wiggins experiment". Granted, like you said Alch, it may not matter, as getting Klay back next year will make him basically useless. I'd 100% rather keep Oubre than Wiggins. The dude is extra af but that energy comes in handy especially during blowouts like this.
And now to the piece de resistance. I didnt care (and actually expected) getting blownout by 30. Seeing Wiseman play so smoothly and comfortably and fearlessly was extremely exciting. I dont think the end score of the Bucks game will be much better tbh. But I think Wiseman is gonna develop even faster than we expect and even if its another tank season, I will have a ton of fun watching him. Curry, Klay, Oubre, Dre, Wiseman. That's a fun lineup. Glad to be back Alch!

I have so much to say, but I won't write a whole diatribe about this game. I will make only a few points as you said Pascal was horrible The effort was not there and I think it is because out of shape but that is not an excuse it was disgusting. I think Wiggins is a mental midget that just what I believe. I didn't see any fight from him I think he's too comfortable in mediocrity and maybe too far gone as a person and player to get that next level to push himself past that mediocrity. I think Steve Curtis will do a better job of coaching he needs to play the players other than that are going to be more effective that game. If Wiggins is playing like that you cannot put him and Oubre in together. It just doesn't work. I think he needs to consider putting Lee and Mulder in on the second unit and surround Wiseman with shooting. Make him the focal point. I also would like to see Curry be the focal point more on offense letting Wiseman and him play pick and roll
Keith Reynolds Jr.

Good to be back. It is one game, so no need for overreaction that you would see on Twitter and such. Nate Duncan mentioned how he didn’t realize how bad of a passing team the Warriors were without Draymond playing. And I never thought of that until he mentioned it. Draymond and Curry might be the only decent passers on this team when you think about it. And that should even further emphasize to Kerr that he has to modify to offense this season. It was weird seeing the Nets keep switching off-ball action and Kerr keep going with that offense. I think at some point Steph also has to have more of an alpha attitude and stop trying to be as much of a team player. With the spacing more limited, he could open up more shots for him if appeared he was threatening to shoot a lot more as opposed to distributing. I’m encouraged on Wiseman. All the mistakes he made looked easily correctable over time and with experience.

two shouts from the 90s.. 1) Marv Albert repeatedly saying Joe Smith was from 1970. He was not a minor figure either. Did Joe Smith go 1? NO need to say anything more about Marv 2) despite Chris Webber being a terrible commentator, I loved his mention of Rod Strickland as the godfather of Kyrie. That dude saw every little hole within 8 feet of the basket and threaded it. Truly amazing. But Rod also was the prototype NY guard. Raised where they couldnt keep the damn nets on the hoops and none of those guys shot from outside. But Kyrie has every type of bucket sewn up. The Lakers cannot hang with them as they are. However, Kyrie is physically reckless and needs to last the season. Lastly, everyone thought we might be Wiggins and Wiseman and a lot of stuff for Harden. After what we saw last night.. untouchable

Wiseman - He gets LOW! It looks weird seeing such a huge guy get so compact. He looks so fluid and versatile already.
Oubre - I'm still loving what I'm seeing. It looks like he's got a quick trigger for his 3pt shot, but will pump fake and post up most of the time. At 2:48, he's in the wide open corner looking to shoot. It looks like he really hunts for rebounds and putbacks.
I can't wait for Draymond to get back and HOPEFULLY mold Wiseman and Oubre in defensive monsters. I know Alch is still itching to trade my guy, but I'm counting on that fire in his belly to fuel him for the rest of his contract.

Wiseman having the most feel on the team, outside of 4 players on the roster, is wild to me for both good and bad. Wiseman is gonna develop nicely and it gives me confidence that we didn't need to take Lamelo, despite the hype beasts. The Kerr issue is both on him and Steph. Kerr is way too stubborn with a gameplan and he doesn't like to adjust in game as much as others, but at a certain point Steph has to be able to address this to him and just gets the coach to understand. Overall, not surprised about this performance once I heard Draymond was out. Draymond is indeed our 2nd best player by a good margin this year and we need him to get people into spots on both ends.

Sup Alch,
I think your assessment of Wiseman was spot on, thought the same thing, just a little late on most plays, screens etc.
I would love for him to set the screens a little wider, he looks real thin setting them, the dude is legit 7'1 use it.
The shot looks pure, it's not like Loons were there is no synchronicity of the jump and release, which leads to this little push shot.
With Wiseman Although it's two motion its still, low dip - nice pocket - smooth rhythm into the follow through. Luv it.

Wisemen's rights are owned by the Warriors for essentially the next 6 years so you can relax. The max-Rookie extension is simply too much money to turn down for a player who has never made that type of salary.
No player in the last 5 years has turned down their rookie extension or demanded a trade out prior to getting it. As a Big, the more likely situation is that he's overpaid when he receives the max-rookie extension (from the Warriors), as so often centers are after being a top 5 pick.
Stevie Ray
2020-12-23 22:21:58 +0000 UTC
We don't need to make cap space for Oubre, he's our asset. Any player under contract can be given a new contract regardless if the franchise is over the cap.
And if Wiggins were to play like this up until the point of a trade, he would simply be seen as a place holder of 29 million to accompany the draft pick he came with, and probably others.
Pascall may have little no trade value by February. The Warriors will most likely need to ride the ship with him, and hope that by the time he gets back into physical shape, he hasn't lost his confidence or mentality we had fallen in love with. If you wanted to trade Pascall, it was the day before yesterday.
Stevie Ray

He's not good enough to be out of shape and play against top tier teams. HIs explosiveness and physicality are his primary attributes and they've been compromised by his lack of preparation. I was as high as anyone on him last year and going into this one, but if i had to buy stock on him panning out, not sure if i could at this point.

That shit was dark.
Trying not to overreact, but from a psychological perspective, it wasn't Wiggins play or production, but his posture and his eyes that was the most troubling.
I think Alchemy's right about Xmas day against Milwaukee, Andrew can't have two games like that back to back, or the pick that he came with is gonna get packaged and shipped.

And the announcers! Webber and the other guy, were abysmal. The only prep they seem to have done was to have a producer put together 3x5 cards on each player so they could have something to say. They constantly misidentified players and plays were noted about 30 seconds after they happened like some kind of time delay. I know they were watching from home, but, geez, couldn't they have put some effort into it?

He even has said that himself in the past about the overwhelming talent he had and how little he actually needed to do to win games. Last year doesn’t count either for obvious reasons...
I do think he is a great coach and I don’t want to sleep on his experience and system...AND, I do think he is going to go through some of his own growing pains and have to show up in a way he never has before.
I do feel like he will make adjustments because he is more smart than stubborn but he has an ego after the recent chips (whether he is tracking it or not) that he will have to put in check to really meet his roster where it is at and find ways to maximize the team.

Alc how many games like this for wiggins until you regret the DLO trade regardless of fit

Alc what do you think about Chriss playing the 4 sometimes??
Also, Eric needs to come off the bench. He can’t be with the starters....

Warriors subreddit toxic af, our players are trash or underrated on a night to night basis.

Did you notice how quickly Wiseman adjusted?
The first time he attacked the basket he got called for the offensive foul on Durant, next time he attacked he avoided Kyrie and drew the foul on KD.
Then at some point Green got him with a pump fake and drove to the rim, next time someone did it he staid down and followed the attacker in a low stance.
I feel like he'll have a HUGE benefit from experience, cause he seems to actually learn from his mistakes.

Out of the entire shit storm that Pascal had that game, he had one defensive sequence on Kyrie where he put the clamps down on him. Get that man a treadmill for Christmas Alch and if he dropped 20 lbs you think that could be more of a thing? Or does he have some of that Wiggins gene where every other play he takes a break?

Unfortunately Wiggins and Paschall will have to keep getting big minutes to make them tradable asserts, we need to make cap space for Oubre next season

Thanks for the shoutout! Yah man, I think Dam is creeping in Curry’s nightmares as the Venom to his Spider-Man :-) Dam has the range but can get up
Curry just needs to relax into who he is and let it flow
That’s when he is most dangerous
It’s gonna be a fun year to see all the adjustments and who knows, maybe a trade
We know Joey pockets and gonna sit around and our boy Meyers is a magician
It just sucks so much we don’t have Klay
I doubt we will end up as real contenders this year but if we can build for Klay’s return I think things will get really interesting
If we do make the playoffs (which I think we have a very good chance to do so) then in some way anything is possible
Wiseman is exciting! His raw floor and probable ceiling is flirting with unicorn level
Just so grateful for bball to be played again at the highest level!
Thanks so much for making such great vids!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great breakdown and huge props on calling wiseman's jumper in your breakdown months ago. The bosh comparisons are getting real

I saw hella people shitting on Baze on the warriors subreddit but I felt he played pretty well and kind of weathered the storm and brought a veteran presence and ease when he was on the floor. I'd like to see more of him considering how many young guys/new players we have in the system.

Paschall was bad, granted, but Wiggins was.....epic. If you opened up Wiggin's head you'd find a chaise lounge. He snoozed through the whole game. I'd love to see Poole or Mulder get his minutes. And I agree, it was lucky Draymond missed this game; guaranteed two technicals from him in this abortion.

Wiseman gave me hope for the future. I think he’ll live up to the hype. God I wish Klay would’ve been healthy!
I think in a weird was playing Brooklyn first and get their butts handed to them helped for perspective and was a wake up call.
Another thing I might add, is that like you said, Brooklyn has the ability to make every defense look bad, they can hit tough shots. GS was slow rotating on D but I liked most of the shot contests. More times than not they’ll force tough shots and they’ll be more misses than makes.

100% was slouched on the couch as well by q4 but Wiseman's activity brought a big ol smile on my face. I know it's a damn tall order for the rook but I really hope he can become at least close to the second scoring option behind Steph this year - confidence and versatility through the roof on the kid

The warriors have a the size... pause. But I think the lack of shooting is gonna clog Stephs game a LOT. Now of course the other guys will build some chemistry and they can have an off night but if wiggins and oubre can’t draw any perimeter defenders out deeper it’s gonna hurt wiseman and Steph. Obviously he’s also rusty so his shooting will come back but I really like what I saw from Wiseman. The way he travels and covers ground just makes him look lighter and more nimble than he probably is. I think his ceiling could be very high. If he starts consistently pulling up and hitting those deep 2s that would be great for this squad.

I know the rookie contract situation now doesn't allow for rooks to leave after one year.

Very much a letdown as a fan. But-James Wiseman was very exciting. I still have scar tissue from when Chris Webber (a big of the style the Warriors could NEVER get) left after one year because he didn't want to be in Oakland/Don Nelson/Warriors. I do thing the Dubs better find some solutions over the next 2 years so that James can develop into a long-term part of their team-and not be tempted to go somewhere else where more winning happens. I know it sounds ridiculous for me to talk like this given the Warriors were in the Finals for 5 straight years ending last calendar year. But-players all want to move to where they can win-and the Warriors better do whatever it takes to make good on all the millions in tax penalties to field a team. Joe Lacob didn't spend $84 million on Oubre to lose games playing scared (not Oubre but other young players on the team). The culture is good on the Warriors but what will really help is some sense of direction. If Klay and Steph and Draymond still have it in 2021-22 and don't look like the NBA has passed them by playing their ball movement game better than they can-they can get back possibly. But-it might be worth it to note the talent level of James Wiseman (hopefully given his start here) that possibly he's now the key building block of the next phase of the Warriors success. I know there's a lot here I mentioned but DAMN-being a long term fan I remember all the years of duds and I have to see some improvement this year.

Great breakdown Alch, I had missed the game but was watching the box score. Was just shocked looking at it every few minutes at the shot percentages, but seeing it in action it makes sense.
Hyped for Wiseman, looking forward to more breakdowns.

Love wiseman, liked chriss. Don’t know what I wanted from Poole but I expected more.
I’m really hoping Draymonds biggest impact is getting everyone set up on defense. Wig needs dray to get in his ear too

Draymond gonna earn his check just by bringing some competitive fervor. However I will say I'm happy he wasn't out there tonight because when we get blown out with Draymond on the court he completely falls apart and probably would've gotten himself ejected, lol!

I guess the takeaway is it went as good as it could for Brooklyn and as bad as it could for the warriors but ey whatever let’s hunt some deer on the 25th

I think the draymond absence really affected the energy we brought last night paschall just needs to improve his bag and also get in shape but wiseman did make it bearable 😂

Chriss/Wiseman/Mulder/Steph were the bright spots but we shot so poorly after generating a number of really good shots early. It's 1 game and we need Draymond.

I still think we need one more consistent 3 pt shooter. If we could get Mcdermott, we can run a lot of similar actions that Klay had for Doug. He'd make a defender commit to him and let Wiggins or Oubre work the midrange game without congestion.
