Comments

Yo Alc, I've always been a fan of your hot takes but please leave the public health comments to the experts.

DW

I think draymond was 100% on point when he said he couldn't lead the way he wants to. It's painfully obvious. It's crazy how many times in the last week alone I've seen him stop himself from calling someone out especially Poole for blowing a coverage or going the wrong way on a screen. He just sort of motions to himself rather than directly point it out. It's messed up man. Unless they iron this out somehow, it's hard to see things changing and I'm usually very optimistic about these guys.

AK

Sure there is something not clicking with this team. Might run deeper than the team too, when you look at bob and joe and whats going on there. Steve is a vet too, so he is mainly loyal to that part of the team and he should hold everybody accountable to the same standards, i agree. That said, the team has the potential to play well. We`ve seen it. We just aren`t the best team every night anymore. Now there come 10 games which should all be very winnable. If we do, we won`t haved cured our problems, but look a lot stronger. Don`t get fooled by some bad or good results.

Andreas Wiedemann

Not the same thing at all. It’s ok, sorry I brought it up.

Athletic Alchemy

sorry alc, this is a bad argument. It`s not impossible that i can fly, i just haven`t figured out how.

Andreas Wiedemann

I've seen enough this team needs Dwight Howard or boogie

L2theJay -

We've seen Steve telling Steph to focus at least once, I don't think it's fair to assume he doesn't see what's going on. He's too smart for that.

Neal X

Steph was very hard to watch, it’s a lack of focus, I mean, throwing the ball away without a care, killing any momentum or opportunity to score. He was mainly responsible for the Wolves scoring in the 4th. Hero ball against bad matchups then compounded it with bad decision making. That bad pass out of bounds was just terrible. Hopefully it was just a bad game and not signs of decline especially this close to the end of the season.

Edward Green

I think Kerr and the front office are the only people who can turn this around at this point. And I don't mean just by making trades (though a good one would help), but by addressing the various elephants in the room. This season, we lost GP2, we lost Mike Brown, we lost our hunger, and increasingly as Alch points out, we're losing the team concept. We won't go anywhere in the post season without getting something back, and soon.

Neal X

I mean to be fair; any side effects would've happened immediately or soon after vaccination (weeks). He would've been monitored if he had any. And only if he got boosters then side effects would've continued, extremely doubtful since he was so against it the first time around.

John Z

Been seeing it for a while, team breaks down towards the end of games. As great as some of the movement is, it takes a ton of work whether it results in a basket or not, then Steph gets targeted on defense. There's a reason Kerr tries to keep their minutes in the 30s, the style of play can only be so relenting as long as the minutes are lower. It's why I don't understand why Kerr doesn't use those minutes to exploit as much as possible. Appreciate the breakdown as always.

John Z

Three times early in the 4th qtr Steph brought the ball up, dribbled around for 5-10 seconds…and launched a brick. That was when the game started going south. His hero ball is killing the team, less so Klay. Contrast the ball movement in the first quarter with the inverse in the 4th qtr and you have the game in a nutshell.  I’m one of Kerr’s biggest boosters but, jeez, he is ruining Wiseman and Moody. Send them to the G League if you hate them, but don’t have them sit there night after night watching but not playing.

Jerry Heverly

NAZ and Kyle looked nice

Qiushi Hu

I know it cannot be done but I am with you

Jello Smooth

Thank you for the cathartic breakdown

Jello Smooth

Austin Rivers made sure to get that jersey before Steph hits the decline😂

Jacob

I’m going in…. Kerr pissing me off. When the kids make mistakes pullem’,but everyone else can f^

Jello Smooth

I appreciate this take, we’ve always known him to be a “played two too many” coach, so the fact that his rotation is so short is alarming. However I think as a HC and someone with his accolades, he should save the core three from themselves, they’re not 26 anymoreb

Vincent

nah but, they may be into deep with young "assets" at this point

Athletic Alchemy

lot of iso ball.. it can become contagious

Athletic Alchemy

I get Wise and Mood, but you are right feels like PBJ can give us min

Athletic Alchemy

I dont mean to offend, Im just opened minded. I have heard several people suggest it. The brother has been sick 3x in 2 months.. after being an iron man

Athletic Alchemy

Too me Lacob is the root of this.. yes Kerr has his issues, but he is caught between a rock and hard place. He is indebted for a lack of a better term, to the core 3 and how they want to play

Athletic Alchemy

"early movers advantage"

Athletic Alchemy

I think you are right.. and its one of those things you only realize once they are gone

Athletic Alchemy

and now Joey has his finger on the trigger! lol

Athletic Alchemy

JP cant be moved until the summer

Athletic Alchemy

what do you mean? Im simply responding to what a lot of people have brought up. I cant call it! But Im not saying its impossible...

Athletic Alchemy

Im try and go 1080 60p next seaon ( maybe playoff time) the process to rip and bandwidth can be an issue.. But Im looking to move on from Direct tv now that they have lossed Sunday ticket

Athletic Alchemy

tinfoil cap* Lacob is trying to nudge the processes ahead.. what if in his mind,he provides them with solid vets and inevitably it will drag on too long

Athletic Alchemy

well said.. they let slow mo live too last night smh

Athletic Alchemy

Great Breakdown much appreciated as I only got to see the end of regulation and OT. I'm not sure it's age alone with Steph (though I'm sure bit by bit he's been slowing down for years). It was heavy minutes and a poor style of play as you say, lot's of uncharacteristic hero ball vs less than ideal matchups. I've come to a bit of an epiphany recently I must admit. I've been on the trade band wagon all season arguing that the teams needs depth and that having a third of the roster full of projects that aren't seeing much playing time if at all is crazy. And yes that is still true. BUT, I can see Lacob's perspective and his eye towards the future after seeing games like this. Where it is clear as day that the league has caught up and this system and these players aren't catching people out the way they used to. They've now enjoyed so much success that the hunger and desire just isn't there, they get sloppy with everything and they don't have the bench they had last year to fall back on. So I can totally understand why Lacob doesn't want to sell the future for THIS team as it is right now. Kerr is still a great coach but I'm at the end of my rope with his refusal to attack mismatches and in particular to recognise when people are in foul trouble and to go at them. Hell the Wolves were targeting Steph late in the game for very good reason.

Alasdair Macdonald

Kerrs attacking mismatches has been a huge red flag for years. Steph might need to mix in more pnr with his off ball movement so he can conserve stamina but this guy also has been otherworldly for years i don’t think he just fell off a cliff that quickly. It seems to be more mental he just has no focus out there unless it’s memphis and it’s interesting you bring up how careless others play with steph out there compared to him off the floor. It’s either a head of the snake thing and Steph needs to get his head out of his ass or it’s the team relaxing knowing they got a top 10 player all time next to them

Brad30

I really don’t think their is a trade out there that absolutely transforms this team, but a thybulle trade could help Shake things up, bring some athleticism, and more importantly energy to a team that seems to be asleep

Robert St.Claire

Starters: Curry, Donte, Wiggs, JK, Loon Bench: JP, Klay, Lamb/PBJ , Dray, JMG

Harold H

I would even bench Klay since Donte lets Steph play off ball and reduces his load on the defensive end

Harold H

I still have no idea how they let DLo get 4 3pointers in the 4Q. He should have fouled out sooner. Kerr is just bad at seeing a JK-DLo mismatch in real-time. DLo should've fouled out after his 2nd 3pointer in the 4Q. Also, BOB GO GET NAZ REID for crying out loud!

Lyle Mabalot

Start JK and Loon bench JP and Dray

Harold H

how about flipping Poole for Siakam..... who says no there edit: checked in the trade machine & the money won't lineup without draymond :(

COLD GETTING DUMB

btw the glitchiness must be your TV provider, i'm not getting any of that on youtube TV

COLD GETTING DUMB

It appears the negotiation talks around his new contract has less to do with the salary total and more with his current lack of autonomy

Stevie Ray

bruh wtf is this about the vax?? pls don't be falling for that pseudo-scientific bullshit on us

COLD GETTING DUMB

Dray for Collins

Stevie Ray

I like this take, It's gone forgotten the narrative around Steph after he broke the 3point record and how he "was having his worst shooting season" because of the title and his greatest individual playoff performance Maybe, after all these deep runs A weekday game where DLO is his best opponent is something very difficult for him to lock in mentally

Stevie Ray

Stream looked better today, Alch. But yeah, I get it, not on your end. Was wondering if it was my phone haha.

Eric Anderson

I wouldn't call last year a "miracle," we simply outplayed everyone in the playoffs and when you do that, you're legit champs. But statistically, I think you do call it an outlier. Myers said multiple times they had no idea what to expect last season. So it caught them off guard, even with all their sophisticated in-house analytics.

Major Powers

I will ask how much of this is just who we are and was the chip more on the side of the outlier not the norm. 2 years ago we hovered around .500 all year, last year after the crazy motivated hot start we were again right around .500 now this year again .500. Maybe last years miracle run was just that, one last miracle where Curry just did something amazing

KuraiT

If bob is leaving do you think he would set us up to fail so that he could look good for his next opportunity?

Strong Foru

Bob needs to get on the phone and start making some deals ASAP we might not like what he does right away but it will pay off in the long haul.

Strong Foru

Making a trade that doesn’t make us the favorites is a bad trade… if we think it’s not our year.. this is the best time to develop the young lottery picks we have

Offtopic K

Kerr and the stars love puffing out their chest and getting pissy when the young guys make mistakes, but a vet shits all over the court and they become mute… No one wants to hold the vets accountable on this team and it shows

CNeal213

Is this the first year in a long time that Steph hasn’t necessarily made his teammates better on the floor? Am I the only one noticing this?

Ben D

We either trade or play Wiseman and fast! Something needs to happen to inject some young energy into the roster! We need to reduce minutes for the starters or they will burn out.! Can the all star break start tomorrow please?!

Chris Hall

I feel like all the Vets are gonna get even more burned out as the season goes along due to Kerr refusing to go past an 8 Man Line-Up in the regular season. PBJ has looked good in all the minutes he's played when the Dubs are shorthanded but gets DNPs. Let Wiseman have 5-6 minutes to showcase something and build upon what he did against the Grizzlies on Christmas.

Omer Ali

Re: the illness thing. We've all been shut in for 2-3 years bc of COVID lockdowns and not had the regular exposure to illnesses people have. Now we're all coming out of our holes, with a weaker immune system. Everyone I know has gotten way more sick than they did before COVID but it should even out by next year or so Bright spots: Wiggs looks better, actually dunked once, Poole getting to the line, JK pulling through in big moments. I think we need to ride DD and JK more, let them play through mistakes but with smarter coaching (losing Mike Brown probably hurts a lot here). No clue wtf is up with Steph, I think dude may be distracted because of his movie and is feeling himself too much. I won't have faith in this team as a contender until we string 2 road wins together (in a row without a home game in between)

Abhi Kelkar

Yeah I agree.. i know I’m in the minority at this point but when we couldn’t get anything moving on offense or need to score late in games Wiseman couldn’t help us over looney? I understand his intangibles need alot of work and he’s not good on defense but he is a bucket and can score on non bigs in the post pretty easily… also he may be pretty motivated to beat his draft class colleague in Wiseman.. last time we saw him play he outplayed lamelo but no kerr would rather bet on the vets who are visibly tired mentally and physically and cold shooting

Offtopic K

Calling someone dumb and laughing at them doesn't automatically mean they are.

Kevin Weng

The aging warriors have added no elements to their offense. It was only a matter of time before the rest of the league caught. We see this with dynasties and big businesses. Their success instills their complacency when they should be evolving to stay ahead of the curve.

Derwin Gaston

JTA, DLee, Bjelica, were all valuable energy guys who knew their roles and knew how to play in the system, and knew how to play without fouling. Look at DLee's shooting splits this year...he's totally outplayed Moody.

A m a r Singg

Vax compromises the immune system, data is coming out. Sure alc is probably joking, but where there is humor there is often truth.

A m a r Singg

Also, you can't blame Kerr for the championship core, specifically Steph, blowing 4-5 games this year by himself. You're supposed to ride with your champs, with your superstars...they should be able to close...that's on them. So no, I don't blame the coaching staff at all, a coaching staff with a proven system that has won over and over.

A m a r Singg

I think it's anything but the coaching staff. When you only have 8 playable guys (sometimes 7 if Kuminga is overfouling), that's not a coaching issue, that's a roster construction issue. Kerr has pulled a miracle with what he's gotten out of Lamb and Jerome because those guys KNOW HOW TO PLAY. Kerr has given Moody tons of chances this year and he keeps looking like the worst player on the floor. Wiseman cost them games early and he can't even get on the floor because he can't play defense and is injury prone. Also, Kerr is forced to either have Looney or Dray in for the ENTIRE GAME because they are the only guys who can play interior defense (JMG sucks at defense unfortunately).

A m a r Singg

I wonder if we underestimated the role of guys like JTA and Dlee, not necessarily because of their on-court play, but rather for what they brought off the court when it came to practices and all the bench shenanigans. They brought good vibes and high energy, which helped energize these older vets. We basically replaced those guys with a bunch of Rooks who consistently look salty on the bench because of lack playing time(I don't blame them) and the two-way guys, who are both more of the introverted types from what I've seen.

Jacob

TWolves looks a lot more cohesive with Naz Reid and Slo Mo in the backcourt over KAT or Gobert.

Jrod

Bruh... how can you even possibly suggest that the vax is reason A Wigs is recovering slowly. That's simply correlation, zero cause/effect, just like any other myths ala headbands turn Klay into a zombie, being a vegan is why McGee was perceived as being dumb, etc.

Kevin Weng

With steph it sorta feels like... yall remember last year from Dec thru like March he just couldn't hit anything after being on fire during the first part of the season? It feels like that, like he doesn't have legs until he gets that second wind toward the playoffs.

Billy Roberson

The funny thing is in the past, we’ve begged Kerr to go small and buy old warriors teams had 3-4 bigs so he’d let people get burn. I guess he just really doesn’t trust Wise or JMG but also refuses to acknowledge the numbers that this tiny team isn’t it

Vincent

Some of Kerr's decisions have been pretty strange this season. it seems like his solution to everything is to go small. And when that isn't working, he'll just go smaller, and we end up getting torched on defense. When dubs played Memphis in the playoffs, Mike Brown had to convince Kerr to start Loon cause the warriors were getting dominated due to lack of size. That seemed like an obvious decision, but apparently Kerr thought that they should continue going small. If he had made that decision, it prob would have gone to a game 7 in Memphis and dubs could have lost the series.

Seb P

oh wow, based on the responses I guess I'm with the minority. But thanks for the fast turnaround on the poll!

Ivan (Vanya) Kashperuk

Nope been saying this.....he has not respect or vision for the young guys. He is playing with the future of this team simply because he likes playing small and doesn't want to adjust.....wise has super potential, moody to me still looks decent, jk wants to be an all time great....I don't see Kerr helping or even wanting that for them.

k fish

I’m really starting to believe this coaching staff has fallen short. There’s some pretty famous ideology from guys such as Theo Epstein(dude who won Boston and Chicago their first World Series in a century) regarding the idea that front office / coaching needs to be changed every ten years. Am I outta pocket thinking this? Maybe Kerr needs different assistants or…. Kerr needs to go?

Vincent

This is who they are. They can’t “turn it on” and suddenly appear like they are serious-because truth be told-they always were this. The way they started the season losing all those road games-they set a tone of mediocrity. It really sounds like there’s something going on behind the scenes that is more than they ever dealt with before during the “dynastic “ years. They just may be too old-and Steve Kerr is not allowing young players to develop.

Paul Hanson

Yo @alch, what are your thoughts on the loss of Mike Brown? Do you think it has affected the energy and focus the dubs are bringing? Did he bring a certain balance to the decisions Kerr is making now? It’s been all over r/warriors last night and today and curious about your thoughts? Perhaps a vid would better cover it.

Neotokyo

@Alch, so can I ask you to do a poll, asking all your patreons, who watches the full game before your breakdowns? I know that I pretty much never do, so your breakdowns is more or less the only view of the game. With that - I've brought this idea up before, but I'd really like to see breakdowns showing, for example, ALL Klay shots (what I personally want), or ALL Steph shots, etc.. You could charge extra for that.. It's just, I really wanna see all the stupid shots they take to get to those 40% FG splits they have

Ivan (Vanya) Kashperuk

The thing is he doesn't need to.....but Kerr loves his system and has no prob running steph into the ground instead of playing the young guys who can score easily in the paint. Love that Kerr is getting exposed....mf won't even attack a mismatch

k fish

Naz Reid gonna go for 3 first rounders 😭😭

richard phan

Kerr is alergic to simple basketball.....dlo in foul trouble guarding jk and won't post him up, same with kyrie a few games ago. It's sad how bad he is as a coach and treats the young guys

k fish

Lol Kerr is terrible.....it's a systematic problem.....we have an extremely talented young big who can get us easy baskets but can't get on the floor.....just as in the brooklyn game the wolves hide a pg on kuminga and Kerr doesn't have the awareness or willingness to call a post up for him......and this same pg was in foul trouble and led the late charge for them lol its sad fans can't see this, small ball stevie

k fish

Yup said all year he wanted to discredit the young guys instead of this summer thinking of ways to use them. Kerr is the problem happy people finally seeing it

k fish

Eviction of poor neighbors…my guy didn’t hold back on this one huh lol

ItsWhATItIs

Kerr continues to rely on these vets as if they are in their 20s. I've said this in the past but this style of play is unsustainable especially during an 82 game regular season. Another problem with Kerr is his style of coaching. He hasn't brought out the best in our young players. He plays favorites and he isn't holding everyone to the same level of standard.

Jimmy Ji

There's like 40 minutes worth of Steph's superb separation videos on YouTube, but if you watch those, you can see that most iso he's done was against bigs. I just don't think he was that great at it. What he excels on is his quick release, catching someone off guard and pulling the 3. We were never a hero ball kind of team, so I don't know why everyone is trying to do it now. We should go back to our bread and butter during clutch time; green-curry high PNR.

adrian salazar

was a rough one...

Mikey H

I blame this on Steph. And i'm not giving him the old age excuse. The dude seemed fine till about 4 months ago. You don't suddenly drop off like that. I know you were even saying last year during him slump as to whether we are watching his decline in real time only for him to then do what he did in the pst season. I just feel his focus is not on basketball right now. I guess being busy making movies and tv shows and getting poor people evicted from his neighborhood will do that to people (o'm joking..)

Vinay Pisini

def not seein the 3rd quarter dubs this year. They're a completely diff team in the 2nd half the last month or so...Seems they are pretty consistently up pretty big at half, then maybe scramble to get a W w 3 mins left in the game...

Mikey H

I don't even know how to feel about this loss.

Inctiz

Alch, this team just doesn’t look good enough. The core 3 look like they’re regressing, Wiggins and Poole are inconsistent, and the bench is mediocre. I think a trade or two could help and if the core focuses mentally we can beat anyone but I’m just thinking this isn’t our year.

Aiden McBride

And yeah I can feel Kerr doing Wiseman dirty tonight and embarrassing him by putting him on Embiid… if he can get the team 10 and 6 tonight on like 15-20 minutes then I’ll be impressed.. if the warriors don’t play him I’ll take it as they’re trading him and might as well just send him home instead of having him suit up just to ride the bench.. or mayor Kerr is waiting for a blowout

Offtopic K

This might’ve been the first time all season when all the warriors were out there that I was saying “Poole end this game for us” 😂… it was that bad for the vets last night.. I don’t think steph can afford to play physical and run around on both sides of the court anymore.. sure he’s a better defender than he was in his prime but that should only be used in emergencies
