USA VS Lithuania

I apologize if the breakdown isn't the smoothest, I did my best.

USA VS Lithuania

When it rains it pours. Holy crap, bro. Sorry to hear the literal shit storm hit you!

Funny enough the warriors had those same nights and convos where the lack of size is flagrant…kerr always wins at the end….interesting to see if there’s a team like lithuania down the line…personally, i don’t see it

Rug Ntar

Was thinking about Kuminga when the bigger defender was mentioned, if he can not get baited into fouls against Reaves in a potential matchup that would be huge

Luke Zhang

Haha, that's cool dude. 👍 But like you said, except for Olympics and the World Championships. But these *are* the World Championships.

Michel ten Voorde

In swimming, we don’t always send the A team to compete in every international competition except the Olympics and the World Championships that is every two yrs. They mostly do it to develop? At least that’s how I got my spot lol

Anthony Tsai

Feel like BI has had the KD treatment his whole life. Too much bigger and better than everyone else as a bucket, so he never developed the core fundamentals of basketball. No defense, unable to box out, no communication, lazy screens.

Andre Brooks

What I don't get is: these are the basketball world championships. Why don't the USA send their best players? You don't see this in any sport, in any country. Except for USA basketball and I think baseball too. I'm guessing it's because they prioritize the NBA? It's still weird. My country dominates hockey. The local league is very strong, probably the strongest in the world. But when the world championships arrive, hell yeah they'll be there!

Michel ten Voorde

Thanks Ben 🙏🏽

Hey Alch I've also had those days when everything just seems to go wrong and just wanted to send you some good vibes. Appreciate you for the still doing the breakdowns.

Ben

Hopefully, a further improving Kuminga could be a nice matchup against Reeves.

Elite take SR, the one thing I’d say is TJs foot totally derailed him. I think AR will be stuck between a 2nd and 3rd option guy depending on the talent around him. Part of the gushing over him is, he was a undrafted FA. Had he been the 16th pick it wouldn’t be like this.

Athletic Alchemy

It just really feels like this team is all great ancillary pieces, where when you add a steph/bron on offense and Draymond on defense they would be whole. Don't know outside of AD/JJJ we have good enough front court depth though. Can they start a JJJ/Palo front court? I like Hart but no lol

Anthony Tsai

Dang, Alch! That was a bad weekend…sure hope your daughter gets well soon. Appreciate the breakdowns, as always.

Patrick Kennedy

It seems the Warrior's 2nd unit and the current USA roster have parallels. Kerr attempts to mimic the Draymond archetype despite him being arguably one of the most unique 2-way players in history (especially in his prime). In the Olympics, when they have Bam none of this will be an issue since he cannot only fit that role but thrive in it. JJJ on the other hand is stretch-4 masquerading as a 5. His defensive metrics were skewed last season with Steven Adams out. With only Xavier Tillman to soak up the backup 5 mins, JJJ's on-off numbers were inflated since Tillman is a scoring big with little ability to control the paint defensively. Also, because of Jackson's shooting, opposing coaches played smaller lineups against Memphis after Adams' season-ending injury. Jackson's most impactful role is at the 5 and yet he does not excel defensively against the top-tier centers in the league because of his fouling issues. And, because he gets in foul trouble early in games, it boosts his per 36 since he gets additional (unplanned rest) that juices his numbers yet puts Memphis in a poor situation, playing unplanned lineups in pivotal moments.

With no sense of patriotism, collecting an L at JJJ and Reaves expense was quite enjoyable to watch. Two players who have been anointed by the podcast community who are huge x-factors for the Lakers and Grizz in the upcoming West playoffs. With Austin specifically, his persona may be suffering a bit from the TJ Warren syndrome. Reaves went off for about 5 minutes in a 4th quarter-playoff game that everyone saw, and it was a game-winning effort that matched his H-Kobe nickname--Similar to Bubble-TJ Warren The Reaves contract has been deemed the best signing of the offseason, and it very well could be. However, there is a world 2 offseason from now, his 13 million dollar contract is more a great trade chip rather than the 3rd option on a title team he keeps getting painted as. He's already a very good player but there's an assumption of him ascending sure smells a lot like a Lakers' Kuz mythology brewing.

Stevie Ray

No fax.. he is annoyingly good, really it’s the Laker thing. If he played for Brooklyn I bet we’d feel no type a way. But it’s the bigger defender on him that caught my eye. I bet a lot of these modern PF could guard him

Athletic Alchemy

Anyone one else just a little happy Reaves is getting dogged a bit 😂 I’m rooting for our guys but can’t lie I enjoyed the Reaves parade getting rained on a little

Luke Zhang

they all wanna be a guard and do guard things it seems like

Abhi Kelkar

Wish you the best, hope your daughter heals up quick

Zach Gunter

Even if we got Tatum, Butler, Booker, Bam and that tier of player, we would be far better off. But im still not convinced we shouldnt win it all in FIBA this year with the roster, we have the talent.

Matt Hanna

Yeah probably right.. at the same time I could just see the Stephs KDs and Brons saying, actually you know what after this long playoff run, thanks but no thanks

Athletic Alchemy

Yup.. I got a make a list of guys who would have been bigs in the 90s but are wings now

Athletic Alchemy

my mind is scattered usually more focused. But I appreciate that 🙏🏽

Athletic Alchemy

Agreed

Athletic Alchemy

I think there is a part of Kerr’s dna on the construct, but also most of the good bigs are not American

Athletic Alchemy

Do you think Team USA for the Olympic games would look similar to this? I have a feeling we would see a few big guns come out for one more gold medal - especially if we lost the FIBA tourney. Just a thought

Matt Hanna

Funny how few good American big men are around now.

Isoar2

Yo Alch the apology wasn't necessary. The breakdown was insightful and well delivered and, as usual, a cut above most of the other commentators on YT.

Guy Mizon

Thanks so much Alch- such a great break down on such a busy weekend. I wonder if there’s any parallels between the lack of size on this team and the lack of size of the Warriors and the coach is the same guy. Just wondering.

Paul Hanson

Thanks for doing these USA breakdowns. Not interesting enough for me to watch live but fun to watch the highlights and see how the new generation is progressing. I do really wish the game was officiated more like fiba though
