Warriors vs Grizzlies GM-34

Comments

I don’t mind JK turnovers, he’s young and he’s actually limited them. They used to happen everytime he tried to drive, now it’s only with certain teams because he’s figuring it all out. He needs to continue doing it until he’s truly unstoppable on a drive, you can only gain that experience in a game. Steph and Dray turnovers are ridiculous, they are too experienced for this shit

Irritated Inanimate

This is just straight up hate and no appreciation for Podz’s contributions. Podz is the new heart of the Warriors, whether they acknowledge it or not. The longer he is out with injury, the less spirit and drive I expect to see from the remaining players.

Irritated Inanimate

Who cares when Looney gobbles rebounds and gives the team second change shots? Also, Looney does his work early to compensate for his lack of blocked shots.

Irritated Inanimate

Lindy’s very althletic, loves going for jump balls, and he learns and makes adjustments quickly. Since he came from OKC, he has a great base in training for himself. His shot when he was with OKC was wicked, sharp shooter for sure. The only thing he wasn’t prepared for was playing 12 minutes straight, he needs to work on his conditioning. If he can keep up with Podz, Spencer, Schröder, Wiggs, and Kuminga, then they could really run with the other teams in the league. I won’t include Trayce until his offense and defense get tighter. Moody on offense, but not defense yet.

Irritated Inanimate

Most of the fan base sucks, but you can’t deny that some people are extremely detailed about exactly what the problem is with Kerr’s coaching. And since the commentators affiliated with the team won’t call Kerr out…

Irritated Inanimate

LOL! It’s not going to look better, Kerr won’t change anything. How about that Heat?

Irritated Inanimate

I think Trayce is too comfortable with being a role player and he hasn’t realized that in the NBA, even the role players have to be stars in their role. He has the look of someone who has no idea he has to change because everyone keeps telling him he’s doing a great job. Possibly the Warriors organization is TOO supportive?

Irritated Inanimate

Same with Kuminga! Activated at the start of the season, but another level with that Laker game dunk on two.

Irritated Inanimate

Lol, if Trayce changed nothing in his game except adding a pump fake, I would be very happy. Basics. Fundamentals.

Irritated Inanimate

I think Steve would like to play SloMo more as much as we all do and I do agree with your point that giving Kerr too many options has backfired this season. I did forget to clarify that, when I mentioned fit, I was focusing more on offense. SloMo no doubt fits defensively with any of the bigs, but in a frontcourt rotation that lacks scorers outside JK, it's hard to justify playing him next to guys like Loon or TJD and he's redundant skill wise with Draymond as defensive minded playmaking 4s with suspect outside shots.

Nick Elliston

JoKu! I love it!

LonTheThird

*half of Podz minutes 😂

LonTheThird

30+ minutes?! 😳 That’s cutting into Podz pt 🤣

LonTheThird

The whole league been asking Trayce for a pump fake. It’s like feinting in boxing. You just gotta do it.

LonTheThird

They definitely play as close to “dirty” as you can get.

LonTheThird

Valuable even with the turnovers and inconsistent freethows. Steph and Dray gone turn it over regardless 😂 JK might be the only certified bucket on entire roster due to size and athleticism. If we not shooting well who else besides Wiggs gone come through?

LonTheThird

Playing is Kerr’s offense featuring Steph is like studying biochemistry while having a full time job and volunteering at the soup kitchen once a month.

LonTheThird

With Kerr? Not happening. Not enough ball handlers

LonTheThird

Nah I think it’s a lack of Kerr knowing what to do with all the options. SlowMo is second to only Draymond in game iq and can fit in any line up. They have to trust his pace even if we want to play fast. He and Schroeder can dismantle some teams if we let them cook

LonTheThird

This is a spot on analysis. The funny thing is he’s shown flashes of doing all the above, though few and far in between. I’m convinced it’s a mental thing. I can tell he’s uber focused on what the coaches tell him to do especially when playing with Curry.

LonTheThird

Trace has a passable handle imo it’s just the pick in traffic and the hands on a sweaty ball 😂 This is where coach Deki (long live) perhaps could have given that one on one mentorship to help him unlock his bread and butter.

LonTheThird

The Schroeder dime @ 12:10 sheesh! He was putting a mixtape together. Definitely the best player on the floor. Pippen Jr. might be a good pick up somewhere down the line. At least he would fit with Kerr ball.

LonTheThird

I mean... JK was on pace for a 10 turnover game. That's worse than horrible. That's unplayable. Everybody has bad games. But the stupid turnover thing is an identified problem that JK has, so it wasn't a fluke. And Mood got *blown by* straight to the hoop in like the first three of his on-ball defensive stints. It was wild.

John Pettus

I thought I was the only one who heard Draymond talking trash to that ref. The refs are people too so they are petty and will hold a grudge. Draymond running to Kerr with his arms in the air like a child would do is a little telling.

Goku44

Do you think with Vucevic we'd be able to play bigger with Loondawg and SloMo alongside him?

theycallmemiyagi

I agree. They need to reduce buddy's minutes.

Carla Davis

He gets those minutes if they reduce Buddy's.

Neal X

He's there for rim protection, dunking, and because he's fast enough to guard the perimeter, unfortunately we're not going to see much more out of him. If we get Vucevic as the starting 5, we trade some flexibility guarding the perimeter, but in return we get a TON back on the offensive end, and he's just as good a rim protector/rebounder from what I've seen of him.

Neal X

Yep, even in the previous game he gave up at least one wide open layup just to look for someone else to dump it off to. Infuriating. When he's playing one-dimensionally and predictably Draymond absolutely kills us.

Neal X

Slomo + Draymond works just fine against larger slower teams especially. We've already seen it work more than once.

Neal X

I'm aware, my point is, if all Buddy is out there for is just 3 point threat and NOTHING else, we have guys who can provide that plus more, whether it's them, or Lindy/Moody, or hell, I'd take Kyle too, he'll knock down open 3's. Podz's shot was reviving before he got hurt, btw.

Neal X

Keeping him uninjured for the Vucevic trade? I can hope... At least TJD does offer rim protection, we rarely see Loon block shots.

Neal X

I was yelling at Kerr to pull him.

Neal X

Love Wiggins responding to the moment, and love the juice Schroder brings. I want to see trace work on his footwork and handle. When he puts it on the floor he has the speed and strength to create advantages for himself and others, and with his finishing being what it is I think this would open up his scoring in a way that plays to his strengths more than developing his lay up package. Unfortunately if the problem is really his creativity which is likely then that's the one thing you can't improve with reps. Also I'm crossing my fingers that he goes for a second pump fake this season, but I'm not holding my breath.

Rory Noone

Because I’ve seen Lindy, Buddy, Steph Wiggs and JK play to the baseline before

Sarcasm 360

How do we know whether Moody is doing that as an individual player, or whether coach has the team expecting him to funnel the player a specific direction? If its the latter its not Moody's fault that's the strategy, though the execution is poor, admittedly. I agree with you that the funnel strategy only works if you have rim protection. But the coach who likes to go small in 2025 when teams have adjusted and now have mobile bigs who can stay on the floor against smaller teams might be the same coach who would tell the team to play a defense regardless of the lack of rim protection.

Point Gawd

“Horribly” is a bit strong imho

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

It’s not even just that either. He has no idea how to jump into shot blockers to create space and finish through contact, he doesn’t know how to use his length to extend and finish around a contest, and then yeah. He’s total lack of any post game or footwork, and can’t dunk it unless he has a wide open lane, a running start, and a poorly timed rotation. When Kevon Looney is a better finisher than you and can’t even jump over your shoe size, you know you got problems.

Jansen E

“Agenda free” is so spot on and important for this egalitarian squad. Stealing. These younger, bigger, more athletic squads w an attitude are usually a struggle, and I f’ing loved our vibe in the face of that chit! “Huffin in a double wide” is prime Alch! 🙏🙏🙏

Chip Tingle

There’s a difference between funneling a players in as a team strategy and an individual player being told to guard another players tendencies. This is a defensive scheme to play them to the baseline and rely on help defense, that does not work, as I said, when you don’t have a big, if other teams do that they will have a big, this team doesn’t do that they play 3 guards.

Sarcasm 360

If only he had some post game. It really is just him jumping off two feet and relying on athleticism..

Kevin Luong

Like how we got 4 guards lineups and they have 4 big lineups, was just funny to see. Dray's delusion is wild.

John Z

Then why does every team in the league do what you said "doesn't work"? Moody just does it poorly. And he's not the only one on the Dubs to do it poorly. Also, the reason there's no rim protection is roster construction. Other teams do have rim protection. So, its not the strategy, its the implementation.

Point Gawd

Lol what? I’m not wishing for Wiseman. I wish TJD knew how to do a goddamn layup.

Jansen E

As a Wiseman believer, I knew people would one day be wishing for Wiseman. . . . You know he got injured in Game 1 for Indiana this year, out for the season I think.

Point Gawd

I saw that lol

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I really just think that the overnight leap from g-league guy to starting SG next to Steph Curry would be a lot for any shooter. Not a knock on LWIII at all. It’s not easy to suddenly find yourself the new Klay Thompson. His consistent defense throughout shows his heart and I think (like Podz? Knock on wood) a little breather from the pressure might have helped him regain his form.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

I only noticed cause every time we ran a 3 guard lineup with buddy lindy and Schroder or pat they went on runs and the defense looked like it has the last month, how many 3 guard lineups Kerr runs is a good thing to keep an eye on as Steph pods and gp2 return hopefully he can see that going big allows us defensively to stay home and not give up so many 3s

Jevon

Peep Buddy celebrating the Lindy 3 from the sidelines with 7:40 left in the fourth all up in JJJs face and JJJ just running his ass over. 😂

smiRk

Does anyone remember how All Star Wiggs was born with a crazy dunk on KAT? He realized he kinda liked the respect of his peers and went on a run that culminated in his majestic Game 5 performance and a chip. I’m not saying it’s definite…but there’s a universe where this game unlocks Wiggins for the rest of the season. Don’t @ me. Just sayin we’ve seen it happen before…

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

The Kerr stuff is too much, at a certain point gotta except he ain’t going anywhere long as Steph is here. If he has a really bad night I’ll call him out. But at the end of the day this is and will always be a players league

Athletic Alchemy

Bane looks like he did have full eyebrows and a proper stache at one time, but he got left in the head polisher too long

Sqk

I am utterly SICK and DISGUSTED with watching TJD on offense. Yes we need his vertical spacing and I can acknowledge he does “the little things” every now and then, but Geezus Christ he is GOD AWFUL on offense. It’s not even James Wiseman level where he doesn’t understand the game. The dude just absolutely sucks at finishing if it’s not on a silver platter. If I’m a defender, I know that all I gotta do is contest him a bit and he’s gonna smoke it. It’s unreal how bad Trayce is around the rim.

Jansen E

Yeah yeah that’s what I was referencing but I couldn’t remember what he was saying. I couldn’t believe how many times said it. It was like alright bruh…

Athletic Alchemy

I thought it was hella corny the way fans were acting like the refs were being totally out of pocket with Draymond. Like, the team is clawing its way out of hell and he starts doing that that “surprise!” bs right in the Ref’s face. Like, what do you think is gonna happen??

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

Hey Unc - who’s more in the way of that, you think - Steph or Steve? I’m starting to think there’s a cult vibe surrounding the 2 of them - a dynamic where no one in the building is allowed to question their decisions.

deb m.

JK and podz going down might reveal what this team of solid vets is all about. Instead of seeing if the projects hit - we can see solid players hitting their stride in the Kerr system. We got lucky from 3 this game. But we see if we keep that same energy in the weeks ahead. Rest up Simba

Gary

Good to see SloMo get an opportunity. I think his recent DNPs are due to a combination of him not be a good fit next to either Loon or TJD + Dray & JK taking the majority of minutes at the 4. With JK out, should see more of him. Still think a stretch big would help with Vuc being the obvious target. Only other possible target would be Jonas Valančiūnas with the Wizards. He's on a 3yr/$30mil contract and only making $9.9 mil this season compared to Vuc's $20 mil this season and $21.5 mil next season, but the problem is he's stopped taking and making 3s this season.

Nick Elliston

Will always support you Alch, but these fans are too much. The constant bickering is lazy and tiresome. All complaints no real solutions. Glad to have seen the team I grew up with win but I understand why everyone hates the fanbase.

Nos Dollas

No one wants to hear it but at this point its more about Steph adapting to this team then them adapting to him

Athletic Alchemy

good point

Athletic Alchemy

nah I thought Dray was all the way gone after the last JJJ foul lol

Athletic Alchemy

I think it may force Kerr to play bigger, but im still not buying the Podz is trash takes

Athletic Alchemy

I know... Trayce aint playing that well!

Athletic Alchemy

Slomo is awesome. He needs to play more. Such a warriors player.

Supreet

Big part of it is a lack of creativity too

Athletic Alchemy

Yeah I just Like Lindys game better overall.. you can see when he gets good looks he is notch above as a shooter too

Athletic Alchemy

u notice how many goaltends TJD has? I like him but he's gotta clean that up. seems like at least 1 a game

Mikey H

i dont think he's as bad as ur sayin, i def want to trade him tho. the problem w pods is that if he's healthy, kerr's gonna overplay him & that's a problem cause he aint that good. So I'm happy he's out of the lineup. If i wasn't so lazy, i'd look up stats as to what the record is without him.

Mikey H

I'm all in on Lindy and have been for awhile. You could see it even before last night. Dude just needs a steady rotation spot. Even when his shot is off he makes the right play. I like moody but it make time to trade him.

Carla Davis

All the seats in the building have a decent view, but up there you're gonna be watching the screen a lot. But ya, the food, be prepared to spend $100. Or eat beforehand and just spend $20 on a beer! Its fun though, totally worth it! When you book a hotel check out Fishermans Warf area, easy to get to arena via public transportation and its cleaner than staying in SOMA.

Allison Hendrix

gp2 and podz are both hurt. I think Kerr is also thinking they still have to guard buddy. They will leave gp2 and podz open because they can't shoot.

Carla Davis

Slomo has the best attitude. In his post-game presser, when asked if being in and out of rotation was difficult, was so nonchalant. He said this is normal in December and he knows he’ll be on the floor in the postseason. “He stayed ready so he ain’t gotta get ready,” indeed.

deb m.

Nah at some point you have to ask yourself how many times Kerr himself has dictated that “we can’t do ‘x’ because ‘y’” and then was forced to do it out of necessity and looked stupid when it worked. We done gone through the JK and Wiggins era, TJD minutes with Dray era, the “we need ball handlers on the court” excuses for small ball, and we’re currently in the “we need a shooter on the court” era while Heild is looking awful.

Sarcasm 360

This is the NBA that stuff don’t work in this era anymore that’s a high school strategy and you still have no rim protection behind them

Sarcasm 360

He had his best game in weeks. I wouldn’t go so far as

Hg80

It works if you can take away a player's dominant hand if they have one. But you can't go so far that the can just walk to the basket.

Point Gawd

They are expensive for everyone, amigo. But what a fun trip that will be! Also, the food at the arena makes the tickets look cheap.

John Pettus

I noticed TJDs impact on the offense was really stagnating. He's a one trick pony and needs to develop some physical and mental dexterity. He reminds me of myself when I try to learn how to dance: I can imitate movements but I got no rhythm or flow to it. I hope next year he develops a post game or something and becomes more of a weapon.

theycallmemiyagi

No. You don't put up a season and a half of team high +/- by being bad at everything. The turnaround is because we just went from the hardest 18 game schedule I think I've ever seen to now a pretty easy next dozen or so. Finally.

John Pettus

where Loon at?

Daniel Fries

The MVP is PODZ not playing. His offense breaks the flow of the dubs and his circle jerk in the paint has been well scouted. He can't finish, can't defense, and can't score. His absence is the reason dubs are winning lately. Thoughts unc?

Chester Chan

Man, our young guys played pretty horribly. JK had 4 turnovers in only 15 minutes, often by doing dumb stuff like trying to dribble between two defenders. 3/3 from three was good though. Moody shot well (2/4) but his on ball defense was UNBELIEVABLY BAD. What is up with that? Did somebody train him wrong, as a joke? That hard hedge against middle just opens up a straight line drive to the hoop and people are killing him by doing the most natural action in basketball. He keeps doing it and I can't believe it. I also can't believe how little touch TJD has. Both his hands and finishing. Can't shoot at all. But he's a sneaky good passer? Dude is just super limited in a way that hurts in the modern NBA. Lindy was great. Slo Mo was great. Wiggs is simply untradeable. We wouldn't swap Wiggs for Butler straight up, but also we couldn't because Wiggs is only making $24m to Butler's almost $50m. Wiggs is one of the best contracts in the league. He'll always be a #2 (or ideally #3), but he's what every team needs. Draymond almost lost that game for us on his childishness, again.

John Pettus

We also ran bigger lineups, when Kyle/dray was at the 4 and Wiggins/kuminga the 3 we played better probably we’ve been struggling since Kyle loon and Ted have all been limited minutes

Jevon

Need to get Vucevic asap the way we got Schroeder. Would make so many things click into place. Also fuck Memphis, would’ve loved to see Kuminga in there for all that chippiness. Wiggs is too nice but Kuminga def let baby arms Bane hearing about it when he’s busting his ass

Luke Zhang

What's the mystery? It's bc JK can't play the 3 and we need to ration how often Draymond bangs at the 5. So it's Draymond - JK at the 4.

John Pettus

Moody's got his bags packed. That was funny.

Stuart T

Anyone else feel like we see Kerr just wayyyy more engaged when there’s no Steph in the lineup? It feels like his subconscious, non-calculated coach instincts kick in. Our offense looks beautiful against these modern 5-out young teams when we run agendaless pick and roll and kick out hoops. It’s really why I think Draymond deserves a lot more credit for his skillset. He’s gotten a lot of shit for not being interested in playing when Steph is out but could you imagine him being the toolsy undersized defensive center to a young athletic lineup that doesn’t feature Steph? Him on Memphis? Or OKC? 😳 He’s like the peak version of a SloMo type veteran in that scenario if we’re being honest. Everyone on this team just loves Steph too damn much 🫠

yan't get right

Waters > Buddy + Moody. Waters can actually D, and make the right pass. Let's just commit to Waters and trade them for a big.

Chaz G

W video!

Davion Green

I think we’re going to see how valuable or invaluable Kuminga is over these next few weeks.

Offtopic K

Lindy looks like he generally has better positioning on defense than Moody and is a slightly better pure shooter but I think with 30+ min Moses may be a better player. Some roster consolidation would be great but I don't know if there are moves to be made

Abhi Kelkar

Alch, you see Post’s stat line in the G last night?

Mitch Coob

Hi guys, Off topic qestion. I’m from Germany and I’m considering flying to the Bay in March to watch a few games. Are the seats under the roof okay, or is the view from there not good? These Tickets are extremely expensive for me.

Morinho

Steph dogging it, people being ice cold outside of him, and Kerr playing musical chairs with the lineups. And of course we didn't have Schroder. EDIT: and December was also a crazy tough schedule of teams to go against.

Neal X

As Alch says, "don't get it twisted" this was a fantastic and huge win for us. That said, if Buddy isn't going to hit like 3 3's for us a game, why is he out there? I get that Kerr is giving him rope to find his shot, but it's midpoint of the season, time for that rope to get cut short. I'd rather see GP2 or Podz out there in his minutes, at least they'll give us something defensively. Also, why I'm not scared of Vucevic being a weakness defensively, how could he be worse than some of the fence posts we already have out there...

Neal X

If Steve hasn’t noticed it by now…

deb m.

He likes to pretend he has a log jam at the 4 when really he just plays everyone up a position, which is probably why players over 6’6 stop existing on this team

Sarcasm 360

Is it me or does Memphis take away landing space when they see someone jump? They get underfoot way too often, in my opinion.

BruceWayne

You peep Bob in the first quarter recommend Trayce utilize a pump fake in his game?

Jalen Kennedy

I agree that pissed me tf off! Unacceptable turnover

Alaase Shambe

I am still perplexed that Steve doesn’t play slow mo enough. It makes no sense

Kahlil Baker

Yeah I'm not trading Wiggs

Andrew Lee

Alch, you called Schroder breakout and SloMo slowing down JJJ.

SAOpp

Few things I noticed from the game - Lindy with some legit minutes is looking really good and i think he is just better than Moody (even though mood shooting way better). Having a big who can space the floor is just a must in todays NBA. It sucks we havnt gotten one yet and it just makes offense so much easier for our guys when the big isnt clogging up the paint. I think JK gonna be alright, he is so tough, i think a week or 2 will be all he misses.

Matt Hanna

I am so so grateful we snatched Dennis away before other contenders could

Andrew Lee

i like pat. doesnt massage the ball, reads the game well and is a proven winner. if he gets shots, he wll make em. i would give him some of the podz minutes.

Andreas Wiedemann

Less small ball = more wins. Maybe Kerr will catch on but with GPII and Podz coming back... we know Kerr's tendencies and habits

Anthony English

I hope Kuminga is OK, as you said hes super durable and hes young. This is really looking like early season Warriors, what the heck was up with December? Lol

KuraiT

I don’t know why they don’t just tell their guys to guard straight up, this “forcing” thing don’t work when you have a tiny team, that strategy only works when you have a big

Sarcasm 360

JoKu was seen in a walking boot and crutches. His recovery time is gonna be measured in weeks not days unfortunately

Branden Edwards

Damn a Keith Van Horn reference?

Derrick Maples

2:19 Im sorry, but draymond needs to be looking to score there. Its unacceptable for a guy whos been in the league 13 yrs not to even got a shot off in that situation.

Adrian

Ok we gotta acknowledge that we win games when we completely remove the option to play 3 guard lineups

Sarcasm 360

First. Haha
