I’m not in the camp of fans that think dray just sucks, he’s definitely one of, if not the most special defender I’ve seen with my own eyes. But yes, at this point he’s taking away from too many players and cannot bring it defensively on a nightly basis. AND he’s a klutch sellout lol it was better when he hated bron

I wonder whether QP’s game makes a Vuc trade more likely. You have to imagine one of the internal arguments against a trade is that it won’t move the needle anyways. But after yday, they might look at all that spacing and say, “Jesus, maybe a legit stretch big might actually put us back into contention…”.

Much like Schroeder, I think Gui's game matured a lot this summer playing for his country. However, I still think Schroeder's game and generally him just being a smaller guard may not be what we need right now even though I like his leadership. I see the changes we need to make being centered around him, Buddy, GP2, and Loon as trade pieces to acquire more athletic size and youth. Vucevic, maybe he's not a must-have anymore, but like you said Alch, it's just one game.

Post postgame gave much credit to the Cruz. While I agree Kerr pretty much fell into this, and post said he and Steph have never been on the floor together in a game, letting him build some shooting confidence in SC seems to have paid off.

If Dray wants to always do it the old way, and he imposes that so much that new players become tight and less effective, AND it turns out the old way has been scouted out the wazoo and no longer can work consistently, then, ipso facto, Dray is a drag on the team.

John Pettus
2025-01-25 02:20:40 +0000 UTC
I don't think Dray is a net drag on the Warriors, and I don't think the data supports that, at all.
But the theory you're articulating is plausible. His wanting to do it always the way it worked in the past probably isn't helping the young guns play free.
John Pettus
2025-01-25 02:19:02 +0000 UTC
I understand what you're saying. Gui has also had the opportunity to play through mistakes. Kerr values high bball IQ players. I didn't know Post was one of those, but it sure seemed like it.
Kerr didn't let Smilagic run around for very long. And he's sure giving lots of rope to Buddy Hield. So I don't think it's a melanin thing.
John Pettus
2025-01-25 02:17:30 +0000 UTC
Excited about the possibility of Post, but obviously gotta see more.
It seems like Gui and Post both have much higher basketball IQ than JK. And better shooting. JK has better athleticism (for now). I was surprised at both the smart defense, but also some of the passes Post was making. Like, this dude JUST showed up. He probably doesn't have a parking space at Chase. He'd literally never played even a scrimmage with Steph before the Kings game.
My philosophy is to maximally play and develop the young guys for the middle 40 games of each season. Rest Steph and Dray and anyone injured or old and save them for the playoffs. Develop young guys and add value. And they will add to winning because they don't take it for granted that they get to play in an actual NBA game in December or January. So they hustle and learn.
Then you integrate what you've learned and consolidate to your best rotations at the end of the season (last 20 games) and roll into the post-season. Even if some of your younger guys don't play much in the post-season, you've developed them and increased your value, and given your club a chance to uncover hidden gems like Gui and Post.
John Pettus
2025-01-25 02:14:04 +0000 UTC
I also think Lavine does not have the IQ to play in our system and will make crazy mistakes and become a -ve player for us
Natto Santo
2025-01-25 02:00:00 +0000 UTC
Moody seems to have changed his shooting form, it is similar to Post’s, Gui’s shooting hand placement now. Podz looks fine. Now we can play ALL 5 OUT- it unlocks the TRUE POWER of CHEF game. Even Buddy is getting there now. GP2 and Loon should not play too much from now on. Draymond comes off bench to perserve his legs. Less Chef minutes and let Podz and Dennis plays to work this 5 OUT System. This season is not a championship season in mu mind. However use this season to JK GUI POST PODZ MOOD/ Waters to play 5 OUT with decent Rebounding and Defense. Then next season, we have Chef and Dray, even Wigs to come off Bench. All the expiring contracts create a salary space for a decent star. Then we will have a second run at the title
Natto Santo
2025-01-25 01:44:53 +0000 UTC
But its a lot easier to hit the threes when they are wide open because the center is also a serious scoring threat. With Dray out and Post in, the Dubs often had 5 scorers on the floor. That's gotta help the shooting percentage from 3 and, thus, that's gotta make it more likely the team will hit enough 3's to have a real chance to win the game.

Makes you kind of wonder what would have happened to some of the players he nailed to the bench if the people playing in front of them had gone down a year or two ago. For example, would we have had this Moody last year if Podz and Klay had gone down at the same time? People forget, Tom Brady replaced the injured Drew Bledsoe, rattled off 10 straight regular season wins, and took the Pats to their first Super Bowl win. Does that happen if Bledsoe stays healthy? Probably not. . . . Maybe some coaches should stop being such prisoners of veteran success, so much they can't see the brilliant young gun whose prime they are delaying by keeping them nailed to the bench.
Point Gawd
2025-01-25 01:32:46 +0000 UTC
It is quite possible that a trade costs too much youth and ends up being a step back. If it were me, I'd only trade to get rid of Dray, for some draft picks (and thus cap relief). I'd want to see what we got with this set and get ready to make needed moves in the summer, when free agents become available and teams might be looking for some of that draft capital Dray brought to help facilitate someone else's sign-and-trade.

Its about time. Except, . . . is that's Kerr's approach to only two players, Podz and Post. Does Kerr have a "P" fetish? Is it just about basketball? Or is something else going on? All I'll say is, it looks odd that the only two players who can say that are Podz and Post.

I think that they defer to Draymond and Steph and have a hard time playing loose. With Steph, they tell Kuminga that any shot Steph takes is better than any shot you take. With Draymond, his personality and reputation are so big that he probably does cause the young guys to play with less joy. Losing Draymond is probably addition by subtraction.

You all still dumping on Buddy. He gets paid to shoot.
You all should focus that energy on getting to stop sending him around the court like a mad man freelancing on D burning up unnecessary energy because others who suppose to be zd stoppers ain't doing their job.
All this energy on zd takes away from his O efficiency.
Go back to the beginning when others were doing their D. Kerr highlight Buddy hustle on D to play above what he is known for. Buddy zo was on point.
Now Kerr gat him helter shelter all over the pace with plenty miss matches and you all don't expect his O to suffer?
We don't be serious.
BTW Buddy ain't thr only one who Kerr gat topcy turbo but he ID the highest paid who is.
Tell Kerr to stop it and let Buddy focus on his scoring.
But Kerr ain't no Dummy so all of this bad coaching to me is intentional for optics in hopes of trading for who they want.

Granted they were playing the Bulls, you definitely could see the geometry difference with Post on the floor. Kings game as well. Not sure you give up real draft capital for one of the Bulls right now, but the expirings and low value contracts may be enough to get a minor piece and reduce the roster backlog. The Hungry youth is nice to watch even through the struggle. Expectations are the thief of Joy. Adjust your expectations fans and you may be able to enjoy the team again.

I will have to say Post's team defense was light years ahead of when you saw him in presesason. One benefit of him not being ultra athletic is I noticed he doesn't fall for pump fakes or chase blocks as much because well, he's kind of slow. I mean, he's 7ft and he knows if he just puts up a wall, that alters people's shots. If nothing else, it gives us something new to watch.
