Exactly. I’m pretty sure Kerr knows it and his problem has been trying to balance the Steph and Dray play with the energy from the younger players.
But I think the front office has noticed the problem now too, I can see them being more aggressive about forcing changes onto the team and asking for forgiveness later.

I wouldn’t mind not caring about athleticism except that Kerr hasn’t improved the team play enough to justify that thinking. If the team play blew everyone else out of the water, there’s no problem.
Watching the Cavs run our offense better WITH athleticism is embarrassing.

I think this was pure business. The org is looking at ticket sales and relevance. A listener on 95.7 pointed out the Lacob was in real danger of getting booed off the court again at Iggy’s jersey retirement night if he had done nothing. Moves on the margins would not have saved him from that.
And it makes sense that Lacob would pay whatever amount to avoid humiliation again. This didn’t guarantee he won’t get booed, but there were literally no other options available.

I agree. The first half was humiliating, but the second half was redeeming. We knew they weren’t going to win because they always choke, but they fought hard.
Mental have to be strong for GSW, none of this is for the faint of heart.
I legit wondered if it was man intentional mind trick by Kerr to lull the Lakers into complacency the first half, then come back as a completely different team. Unfortunately, I don’t think Kerr has the energy for that level of shenanigans. But I did notice he was sitting arms folded for a lot of the first half and he was more active the second half.

Warriors definitely did better in second half and more intentional switches when they could.
It’s always obvious when they lag on defense, they stop swiping at the ball when it goes through the lane, they do less help defense, they rebound less, and they get less steals

You’re completely correct. Everyone can see it, the analytics don’t lie. And everyone has been saying that at the very least, every team in the league specifically practices to disrupt the Dray and Steph two man game. So thinking you could get away with any of that vs LeBron? After he prepared his team with JJ Reddick? Kerr is either the laziest coach in the world or the stupidest to not have planned better for this game.
This is exactly the type of game you play your young players more because the Lakers are t prepared to defend against them, they are much less predictable. Why do you think Spencer did so well? It was too bad that Post and Gui weren’t playing better, they might have been able to do more
Irritated Inanimate
2025-02-08 21:45:46 +0000 UTC
I think Alch’s point is that the Lakers always get the benefit of the doubt and if you understand this as a team, then you understand that you play through, no matter what. Because the refs are fully prepared to show their ass on national tv. I don’t know if Kerr could have challenged it or not, but it was very telling that he didn’t.
Irritated Inanimate
2025-02-08 21:41:36 +0000 UTC
Just because Steph tries not to ever show that he’s chipped up. Taking off his shoe in the middle of a nationally televised game? Against the Lakers? High levels of IDAF from Steph, either from the pain or the mental fatigue, either way his body is this close to just shutting down entirely.

I hope you’re wrong, but that’s a very realistic scenario. I think Steph leaves if the locker room gets contaminated again, he’s been pretty vocal about how content he’s been to finally be playing with people who just wanted to work together and tried their best.
If Kerr is still not paying attention to the development of the G League players at this point, thenI don’t see how he evades culpability because he already knows he will not get the players he wants in a trade and now they won’t be able to draft them either.
Can’t say this won’t be interesting to watch

Moses has had to continually adjust and find a way to get the most out of whatever he’s given, he’s done a great job considering. I appreciate that he didn’t give a damn how funky it looks, he keeps trying to figure out how to get to the rim regardless. Think of this as Mo finally getting to test all of his skills, what’s important is what he he starts to rely on consistently once he thinks he’s gotten enough tries in.

Buddy still hasn’t nailed coming of the screens and, frankly, Dray and Looney are the only two players that set hard, consistently predictable screens that would give Buddy enough time to get his shot off.
But Buddy has gotten better off the dribble, his defense is better, his effort is 100% at all times, even during the bone headed misses. And he’s starting to find his 3 ball more consistently while he’s expanding his skill set. I doubt he’s ever worked harder in his life.
And it’s not his fault that Kerr keeps starting him, so I appreciate him giving his all to try not to let the team down.

It was literally embarrassing, you were right in the comp of a jv vs varsity match, or prime kobe vs the old woeful dubs of the pre "believe" era. Its what made me hate the lakers, showboating and grandstanding like we were easy prey.
JB will make us better, and we need that injection of swagger and grit, really really badly right now. I say kudos to the front office for taking the swing, cuz it is risky, a couple key injuries or family feuds and we are cooked through 2027. I here u. We have to realise we are not in a real position to win this season. Butler will come in and they'll see what needs to be done in the off-season to Complete the squad. We definitely need more shooting and a big and I'm sure that's what will be address in the summer. We have had a lot of close games this year and last which we lost. We definitely need a player who can take advantage of the way teams guard steph and just go ISO and score consistently. If teams continue sending 3 guys at Steph, Jimmy B will take that personal and go for 40 every time. If he's capable of doing what he did to Boston and the Bucks then he's capable of doing same in the west. All I'm saying is this is a better trade than if we got PG

Alch, what are your thoughts if GS run a little bit of triangle offense? We still play some motion and some slow Butler offense, but implementing the triangle allows Butler to be put in places like Kobe and allows the team to remain in a slower system, in theory will probably help kuminga alot too.

Because fashioning a team is more than looking at cheap stats and amassing people with allegedly better ones. Note that Jimmy B set those stats in a weaker east. He's no west coast all-star. Second, he's a more ball dominant player, coming to a team with a coach who benches ball dominant players. How will that work? Third, smart teams trade to fill holes, not headlines. Jimmy B has been anointed a "star" so they got the headline--Dubs trade for a STAR to pair with Steph--but
in reality a team with serious spacing issues sent out its second-best three-point shooter for a player who plays more like JK already, which only further clogs the paint, and replaced an ironman with an injury-prone 35 year old. In what universe is this a smart trade? I could see if it had filled a hole, like maybe bringing in a real 2-guard to pair with Steph. But this trade left the same holes the team already had--no lights-out 2 and no consistent big man, and once Jimmy B has his inevitable injury, it creates yet ANOTHER hole. This is just bad GMing.
Point Gawd
2025-02-08 03:03:55 +0000 UTC
If we are making predictions, here are mine. The fallout of the trade is this: 1)JK is gone before next season, either through restricted free agency or trade. He can probably find a team that will sign him with a poison pill so the Dubs can't bring themself to match it. 2)Kerr is going to learn what it is REALLY like to coach a malcontent. He thought JK was discontented. JK wasn't, he just wanted fairness. Now Kerr will see firsthand what a TRUE malcontent can do for one's "joy". 3)We all have friends who dislike each other and can't work together BECAUSE they are too similar. That will be Dray and Jimmy B. The locker-room vibe is going to be the worst it has been in years, and no one is going to want to come to Chase--and it will show up in bad vides, miscommunication, finger-pointing, and losses on the court. I say this because a go-with-the-flow low-maintenance producer is WOEFULLY under-rated in their role of leaving space for others to be who they are. 4)If Steph thinks he's lost the joy so far, wait'll he has to deal with the collapse of goo-feeling that is going to follow this panic trade. We probably won't see a smile after the All-Star break. 5)They will be lucky to make the play-in this year, and next year is uncertain because the wheels will have come off by then. 6)When this implodes, Dunleavy will take the fall, leaving the GM position by 2027. . . . This is what I think is going to happen. Y'all can see my prediction, and remind me if it is wrong, or note it if it is right. But, I certainly hope I am wrong.

I've been a fan for 35 years, seen it all. As much as I hate watching games like this know I would never whine like these new fans. They have no idea what starting over really means. Fanbases dream to have the level of relevance this team had for a decade plus. When the Warriors do finally reset they won't a thought for a decade plus. Steph and this whole team are basically washed at this point. I actually wish they had traded away JK so he could go and thrive somewhere else for whatever remains of the season. Surely he's going to be dealt in the off season anyway unless they finally blow the whole thing up for good. They can't pay Jimmy and JK unless they let even more of the role players go and sign absolute bottom feeding minimum guys to replace them.
I feel sorry for you Alch I really do, I know historically the team has been much worse than this before, but at least those teams had no illusions about what they were. This fucking team and the key people still think they are a serious organisation.
I'm going to maybe tune in for the 1st quarter of Jimmy's debut but I I don't expect anything to be drastically different. I haven't actually watched a game live on League pass for a few weeks because in truth there is nothing fun about this team anymore especially with JK out.

Thanks for calling out the bad starts. It's disgusting - it seems like every game we're in a ten point hole before the team decides to show up. Most of the time, it's up to the second unit to dig us out. If the second unit is ready but the first isn't, what does that say about your rotations? Kerr's lineups and rotations are the number one problem with this team.
Don't even get me started on Buddy closing. That's just malpractice.

LOL Rock bottom? Oh Alch. I admire and am envious of your optimism.
This is the Lakers WITHOUT LUKA hahahaha.
We can probably dig at least a few hundred feet below last night.
In fact, I am counting on Captain Kerr the gravedigger to do exactly that. You thought it was bad at 3 guard lineups? Get ready for 4 guard lineups with Jimmy! I know Jimmy isnt really a guard, but playing Steph, GP2, Podz, Jimmy, and Draymond is just TOO enticing for Kerr to not attempt to play.
The honeymoon phase most likely will happen. Im calling it now. 6-8 games MAX. Maybe we go 5-1 or 6-2 with the first few games of Jimmy.
I beg someone remember my comment and make me eat crow and call me a negative nancy if they miraculously become a 6th seed.
But hear me now. We are a 2-game play-in losing team at best, with or without Jimmy.
This team is disgusting.

His defence isn't nearly what it used to be and his offence is so limited we're basically playing 4 on 5. Like you've noticed when it's JUST the young guys, they play better team ball. 💯 Shams said we called Philadelphia for PG at the deadline even though his contract is worse than the extension we’ve agreed with Jimmy. I liked him and the Wiggs hate when he wasn’t available was nuts but now people are so upset he’s gone you would think he was all NBA. At least we’re not Dallas! 😂 Jimmy is arguably the 2nd best player Steph has had on his roster after KD. Hollinger wrote this: ‘Butler isn’t a perfect fit — a non-shooter on a team that still needs more shooting and a brittle player on a team that can’t afford many absences the rest of the way. However, even in his 25 games with the Heat this season, a couple of which were spent openly goofing off as the trade drama heightened, Butler’s numbers stand out. His PER (22.8) and true shooting percentage (63.8) would be the best figures on the Warriors.’

Over the past 3 seasons, the front office has made a lot of moves to try and improve this team. One thing that hasn't changed was the coaching and our system. I'm pretty sure management is sick of this just like the rest of the fans. I think bringing in Jimmy Buckets, someone who is not an ideal fit in this system, is a direct indictment by the front office on Kerr's coaching these past 3 years. They want to see something different from this coaching staff. If we continue to run the same stuff with Jimmy on this team and we fail to make the playoffs, I think Kerr is out.

I'm shocked at how fans are down on yhe Butler deal. If in the summer we did the PG deal we would have given him a 4 year deal, lost Wiggins and probably more assets. First Jimmy is a better player than PG, definitely more proven in the playoffs and the deal is basically for 2 years. We only lost Wiggins who most people wanted traded in the summer and a fake 1st. This is an amazing deal. In the summer we can fill out the team and really go for it next year.

I agree. That was some of the most nauseating to watch basketball I’ve ever seen the team play-but I’ve seen close to that a lot recently. It’s like they’re feeling sorry for themselves or something. This may be too obvious, but-how do the Lakers always end up with big tall active guys that are 6 foot eight and over-and we always start with three guards 6 foot five and under? I guess Santos is hurt. But it would sure be nice to have his body on some of this because they have no big talent outside of the centers. Just godawful to watch. That said- they did fight back. If they can make their free throws consistently and not let those touchdown to the end zone passes consistently happen-they might’ve had a chance

Was at the game. During warm ups, Lebron was netting every warm up three. He was locked in from the start.
First half was ugly. Glad it was competitive by the end.

I do not understand why the Warriors did not go after Torrey Craig!!
