Warriors vs Nuggets GM-68

Comments

Yes, and everyone is always surprised when the team wins in those scenarios, even though they have a winning record in that scenario.

Irritated Inanimate

He was elite, he is no longer the best coach to get the entire team to a win. There are other coaches in the NBA who could do a better job and are doing a better job with less talented players. Of course Steph wants to keep him and I will deny Steph nothing, he built this house. But that doesn’t mean I won’t say anything about it when there are clear issues that are not getting resolved.

Irritated Inanimate

Agreed about the organization as a whole. It’s games like this that are a full rebuttal to anyone claiming that Kerr is the right coach for right now or that we can trust his judgment on anything, much less the playworthiness of individual players. But I do have faith in Jimmy Butler, he can single handedly make the difference. But only if he has all the information ahead of time. I think he’s finally seen enough to really understand how this organization runs and what he needs to do regardless of what he’s being told to do. Bucks game showed how Jimmy can be the difference maker.

Irritated Inanimate

The 76ers and Nuggets games were unforgivable. But the reffing during that Mavs game was diabolical. Everyone was talking about it in the comments even though few analysts talked about it.

Irritated Inanimate

It’s the one biggest criticism of Kerr that I’ve had over the last two years, lack of adaptability. At the beginning of this season it felt like he had thought a little deeper about the solution to the problem since they couldn’t acquire another star in the offseason, but that didn’t pan out at all. And to not be able to adapt to another team this close to the playoffs feels negligent.

Irritated Inanimate

People are always looking for a scapegoat

Andrew Lee

Alch's comment about Jokić/Malone having too much competitive integrity to duck a challenge has been stewing in my brain. Maybe they're above that, but Malone sure as hell ain’t above waiting ‘til the last second to announce his star is out of the lineup. Esp. for a national b’cast game, sounds like gamesmanship to me. And Alch’s theory re: Steph being unprepared makes a lot of sense. Say it’s correct - wouldn’t Jokić also be pressed to play? So why is Steph the only one who has to cave? (And how great are ratings when viewers are changing the channel bc the game is shit?) He needs to start saying No. Steph’s brought the networks tons of ratings and the league huge revenue. He’s given enough (for way longer than Jokić) and earned the right to be “selfish,” as those corporate fucks would consider it. Grrrrrr…

wcd

That’s what I saw too. They’ve talked a bunch over this stretch about locking in on game plan as part of their defensive identity. I think it was good for them to get flexed on that a little. Adaptability will be crucial in the playoffs.

James Royer

They lost only by 9. Make the free throws. No turnovers. Winnable. Although I understand this was about the Western Conference standings — sit Steph. He doesn't look well and you'd think by now the coaches/trainers could decipher a player's demeanor. Better decision: have him play in the Bucks game since Podz was likely coming back for that. And sit Draymond too — check out Kerr's post-game comments about bad body language and their interaction in the 1st quarter. Kerr mentioned they had a game plan for Jokic and Murray. The last minute announcement that those guys weren't playing threw them off. They were unprepared to make adjustments.

Bailey

Anybody seeing all the Kuminga hate on twitter? I didn’t think he was great last night but he was far from our most glaring issue. Not really sure what ppls problem with him is

Alaase Shambe

😂😂😂 that diddy party line was too much

James Royer

@Lenny are you a Jim Park burner account 😅? Say you hate Kerr without saying you hate Kerr

Shantel

Steph hasn't been right the last three games. I understand why they didn't rest him, they're trying to protect their 6th spot, but the risk is he gets really injured because he is so fatigued. I think they should have lost the battle to win the war. They better rest him tonight. Maybe Brandon will be back.

Kevin Morris

Frustrating game

Ash

Steph just launched his new line of Bourbon, Gentleman's Cut. Looks like he was hitting it hard the night before

boca

Fantastic observation.

Ejikeme Uzoigwe

fanbase as bipolar as ever i see

Fugazi

As bad as the team was, we were making a push and had all the momentum un the 4th for kerr to put looney back in and that killed us. He shouldnt even be in the rotation at this point. Kerr doesnt read the game....assumes guys are tired and pulls them at the worst time

realdubs

Glad I skipped this but I don't think it's worth overreacting to. This is a classic Warriors tendency to not show up for trap games. Steph should have sat for sure; hurt or not, he and Draymond always dog it in games like this. But you know me, I won't miss the chance to criticize Steve. His staff's always been absolutely unprepared for bench players. Warriors scouting report only goes about 3 guys deep and those 3 were out. They need a serious film nerd that knows everybody's tendencies. Same reason Grimes hung 44 on us. Same reason the list of "warrior killers" is a who's who of journeymen. Lonnie Walker, anyone? All that said, it's just one game and they weren't going to win out. Play hard tonight and get it back.

Mike Peterson

Since Jimmy arrived we have lost to Dallas (no AD, or any center), Philadelphia (no Embiid, joke team) and Denver (no Joker, Murray or Braun). It’s no coincidence that the team struggled psychologically with these match ups and it’s unlikely to be replicated in a playoff setting given the shift in seriousness from regular season games. Hopefully we rest the vets and let JK battle Giannis!

Stephen Jones

I also had heard that Steph wasn't going to play last night and he certainly played like he didn't think he was going to play.

Russ

And completely agree that the way this game went, it felt like we were spending so much energy trying to make up for our F-ups by Draymond and Steph that we might have set ourselves up for a Bucks game loss as well. It felt like 2 losses.

Russ

Seriously, how does coaching staff not see WHAT EVERYBODY CAN SEE?? I was happy to see GPII too. What a waste lol.

wcd

Even with the standings being as close as they are, Im just dumbfounded that they dont understand the BEATING HEART of the entire franchise is Steph. If Steph is hurt, THERE IS NOTHING THAT TAKES A HIGHER PRIORITY!!!!! I dont fucking get it! There is no playoff push without Steph. Theres no "seeding" that matters without Steph. If he is hurt, you fucking rest him. But instead. They trot him out there looking like he's 50, let Gordon turn into fucking Kobe, and treat Russ as if he's Giannis. Just a mindbogglingly disgusting performance from everyone top to bottom. Except GP2. Im glad he played hard. But this loss started with the coaching stuff. The game was over before tip off when it was announced Steph was gonna play.

Jansen E

“Throwing balls around like it was Boogie Nights! “ love it

Oak Doggy

It’s like, is it truly possible for them to turn the corner from these last 3 seasons? The question mark hangs in the air over every game now. Curry’s expression last night suggested he knew the answer. Rough.

wcd

Right? It was so confounding how Steve could have seen Steph out there - so listless, dragging around the court, missing threes, literally passing the ball to opposing players, being a detriment to the team - and decided that he needed to play more minutes. Like, what in the hell does that look like to you, dude?! It sure tf ain’t winning.

wcd

one of the most infuriating losses of the season given the stakes in the standings and who they had out. ffs .. winning the bucks game might lessen the blow a bit though but man that game sucked

AK

It just HAD to be this way didn't it? Jokic being out is not an excuse for the "lack of competitive fear" from last night. Everyone knows the stakes with how close the west is. Not only did we have a chance to gain ground on the Wolves, we also had a change to do so on the Nuggets! THIS. THIS RIGHT HERE...is why I still can't believe in this team. I kept saying it. I knew that as soon as I begin to believe in this team, they're inevitably bound to pull some shit like this. If Curry is hurt, SIT HIM. Its worse to not only play an injured Steph and risk further injury, but it also makes you look even more pathetic when you play a Jokic-less Nuggets team and STILL GET YOUR ASS KICKED. Its not an excuse that it was a "trap game". Every single one of these games counts and they all know it. And they still go out there and do that against a West opponent. Now theres going to be an even more sour taste in all of their mouths when they get stomped by the Bucks! Cuz for 1) Curry should NOT be playing this game and 2) you just KNOW that they're still kicking themselves about last night and will just roll over. I literally have been saying during this whole win streak that I am "waiting for the Nuggets game" to gauge what this team really is. Jokic or not, a TOP WEST OPPONENT is the measuring stick. And they fucking shit themselves when it comes. So no. I will not be eating any crow. I was right to continue to hold out on them while they kicked weak opponents who are missing their top players. We were handed a Jokic-less team to make significant ground in the standings with MINN LOSING AS WELL! And they did fuck all with it. Because of course they did.

Jansen E

It might be the injury that caused Steph to have this bad of a game. The scratch near his eyes can be explained why his shooting and passing were off, but if that's the cause then I'd rather him not play. The whole team wasn't up for it but it really felt like Steph was the main reason for the loss for me

Nolan002

I dont put it on Steve.. I do put some on Stack

Athletic Alchemy

Steph’s TO had me dumbfounded, self sabotage to the max. But it’s def the shooting that will likely result in our playoff exit. Also, dog, what’s up with Looney? That’s a few games now where he has had no presence. You can’t be a non shooter and play that bad when your only job is screen and rebound. What you think? Maybe rotation confusing made him look worse than it is.

Salvador

Praying that this isn't the season we look back on and call it the "12-3 and 14-1 season". Let's keep getting these wins, man

yan't get right

Once Podz comes back, I don’t want to see Buddy ever again. Also 18 offensive rebounds for the Nuggets last night…that’s on Looney. He was just as bad as Steph last night.

FatAlpert

This game was tough to watch. This one was supposed to be the one where Jimmy JK and Moody cook. Instead we looked like we got a hold of some of that Denver indica and took one too many hits. SMH. The worst part is AG and MPJr was gone get their's regardless. At least let the youngins get some work since we lacked the juice.

LonTheThird

This is why I never bought into the actual title contenders hype, if Curry is this tired and worn out with 20 games left, how the heck is he going to hold up over a long physical playoff run? Kerr, Curry, Dray and now Jimmy all have enough magic left for a conference finals run, heck with the west maybe even a finals run but I can't imagine having anything left in the tank and getting absolutely curb stomped by Boston or Cleveland. I'm just happy we are a competent basketball team again (last night not withstanding lol)

KuraiT

Kerr religiously refuses to play guys he’s told are out of the rotation unless injuries or conceding the game force his hand.

BruceWayne

Yeah I turned the game off at halftime. Having watched the Dubs for so long, you know pretty quickly whether they're locked in or not.

Nick Elliston

If it was the league that pushed for Steph, we should’ve just played him the first minute. I know last year, the league likely objected to us resting exhausted starters against Boston, which led to a televised debacle.

BruceWayne

Your comment about the team looking hungover has me dead--I was thinking the same thing while watching this game. Everyone was playing like they were still half drunk. This is one of those games where it's not even worth it to look back at the footage, because there's nothing for them to learn. I'd assume they'd just shelve this one from the film session. lol.

Lenny

Kerr inserted Steph in a gaggle in the 4th to “close” because he was available. If he wasn’t we would’ve had no choice but to keep the strategy that was succeeding. Jimmy was probably subbed out for rest and he’d been beat the hell up on that play where he was chasing the ball and eventually fouled. We didn’t see TJD because Kerr won’t put an available player he’s marked as out of the rotation into a “winnable” game, only garbage time. I agree that’s a ridiculous coaching decision.

BruceWayne

Although I have my criticisms of Coach Kerr-I disagree. This is on the whole team. It’s also in the front office that they didn’t do something earlier about their roster. They are 14 and three in the last 17 games-that’s a great record-but they should’ve had a better roster from the beginning because I’m sorry-Buddy Hield is nothing like an 2018 Klay Thompson. This roster was weak from the start-old, small and slow. And they still are that except that Jimmy is a rare breed. They really have no margin for error now.

Paul Hanson

Draymond made Aaron Gordon look like prime KG

Bento Joaquim

They need to fire Kerr. We loss this game because of bad coaching. We had like 2 lineups that were actively winning us this game but then refused to stick with them long enough for them to win us the game. These players were actually playing pretty well and matched up well enough defensively: Jimmy, Draymond, Kuminga, Moody, QP, GP2. Why didn't Kuminga end this game with the most minutes? Kerr has something out for him and it's clear. He KNEW this was a Kuminga game, but would rather have lost it than have Kuminga be the reason we won it. So what did he do? He kept going to Curry. Kuminga wasn't even in the top 3 for minutes, but somehow has nearly the most points... make it make sense.

Lenny

Kerr is a Dubs GOAT.. would Steph even want to play for another coach? Maybe.. would they have achieved what Kerr has achieved with Curry? Probably not.. I can’t imagine being as good in your profession as Kerr is at his profession and people think you should be fired! It’s hilarious 🤣 he’s not infallible but he is elite!

Stephen Jones

I think the hard thing to admit here is that Kerr NEEDS to run a system with two knock down shooters. They've been force feeding buddy for months now trying to get him back into rhythm--I assume with the hopes that he'll be ready in time for the playoffs. The problem is that in doing so, they're actively neglecting guys who ARE hitting shots. It's like Kerr want's a guy who can go off for 5 threes semi-regularly--it's not panning out--and instead ignoring the fact that he'd be much better off going with 2 guys that can each consistently give you 2 threes each. The issue with Buddy is that he's best used as an off-the-bench microwave scorer. You bring him in and see how he looks after a few possessions. If it's bad, don't play him. If it's good, keep feeding him. The problem is that Kerr say's screw that. Keep feeding buddy till he hits--that's what we used to do with Klay. But these two are two very different shooters. Klay, when he misses, tends to miss the same way for a while and once he fixes it, he's lights out the rest of the night. Buddy has a sort of different feel to him. He doesn't quite have that same level of consistency as prime Klay did and I'm not sure why they act like he can do that.

Lenny

The issue wasn't Steph trusting his teammates. We had like 2 lineups that were actively winning us the game. The coaching staff pulled them out while we had momentum. Not once, but at least twice. One time was egregious, b/c he literally pulled Jimmy and like 2 other guys off the floor after they made a great defensive play that I believe ended in a run out fast break play. The coaches lost us this game.

Lenny

I don't even blame him. He had a bad night. It happens. It's the coaches job to make the adjustment and run him for fewer minutes and rest him. But if the coach can't see that... he needs to stop huffing white.

Lenny

Bro... by half Curry had like 4 missed layups, 6 turnovers and an awful floor game and was seen on the sideline with heat packs on. Why the HELL did they play him for 35 minutes--the most on the team and 3rd most in the game btw... We literally had like 2 lineups in that were actively bringing us back into the game and right at the time we tied the game Kerr pulled essentially everyone out and put Curry and like Buddy in... then we went down like 15 again... Curry is great, but when he's clearly having a bad night AND we have a better answer, WHY NOT JUST DO THE OBVIOUS THING? This game was lost by the coaching staff. Denver was BEGGING to lose this game. The referees were BEGGING us to win this game. If we're going to keep it 100, the refereeing was heavily skewed in GSW's favor and we STILL lost.

Lenny

At one point--and this is where I crashed out. Kerr had Curry, Looney, Gui, and Buddy all on the floor at the same time. ALL PLAYERS THAT DENVER WAS ACTIVELY MATCHUP HUNTING ALL GAME! Fire this man... Fire him out of a gah damn canon, PLEASE.

Lenny

Maybe the Warriors were in on the Vegas action last night? What were they? 12.5 favorites at the start of the game? Pitiful.

Jimmy Ji

You can see in the Discord, but I was screaming attack the basket all damn game. We made progress attacking in the fourth. (Jimmy was getting held across the torso on the 4th Q scramble.)

BruceWayne

stopped watching after 5 minutes, couldn't stand it; saw disaster about to happen; hope this is not warriors' true colors

J Potter

Note: By half time, Curry was seen on the bench with heat packs on, smoked like 4 layups and threw like 6 turnovers... but he was run for 35 gah damn minutes. Think about that. Does Kerr hate this man? Or, if Curry was the one who demanded to be put in, what's the point of having a coach that can't convince him he needs to sit out and let the other guys win this one. What do they pay him for? I'm not even mad at the players, b/c you can't have it every night, but let's talk about how Kerr never has these guys ready to play. Why are we always playing from behind? How are we playing from behind on a team missing 3 of their starters and essentially with no ball handler?

Lenny

Love Gui's hustle but he's not ready for serious rotation minutes especially in a playoff setting. He's barely played in the nba, people are expecting too much from a 9th or 10th guy in the rotation

Andrew Lee

I said this morning this was probably a TJD game but have you been sending him to the G-League to stay warm? Nope

Sarcasm 360

This game was a crashout game for me. We had a lineup that was clearly working and we were beating them on defense, but still lost the game. Why? Because, despite having an answer for Denver's offense, despite there being a clear matchup that would beat them, despite Curry being injured and clearly not having it, Kerr played Curry for 35 minutes. The most on the team and the 3rd most in the game. He literally pulled a lineup off the floor that was pulling us back into the game exactly at the time where the momentum was shifting and essentially never returned to that lineup until like 1-2minutes left on the clock. It's like Kerr is too busy riding Curry's meat to realize it's okay to not play him as much when he clearly doesn't have it. I argued years ago that Kerr's bad coaching would cut Curry's prime shorter than it needed to be. Somehow Curry overcame, but the reality is that no man that's not off the white would run a 37 year old essentially into the ground for a team that was an automatic victory otherwise. We literally were able to get turnovers on them essentially at will with GP2, Kuminga, Gary Payton, Jimmy and Draymond in there in some combination, yet refused to stick with this lineup for lasting minutes. We really need to not forget that Kerr should probably STILL be fired even though the team looks better right now.

Lenny

Easily one of the most frustrating games I’ve watched in recent memory. Draymonds body language the first few mins told me everything I needed to know. Inexcusable performance from all parties involved tho.

Mitch Coob

I'm so tired of Buddy showing up once every 30 games

Andrew Lee

how did i know it was time to rest steph and these clowns didn't. I was happy to write the nuggets game off but missing this opportunity and risking the next game is brutal.

B Master

most pathetic game i’ve ever seen steph play

Dami I

They still didn’t play anybody, just lost to nobodies. Steph should trust his teammates enough to rest when he’s hurt.

BruceWayne

“ a lot of lube and a lot of misunderstandings!” wow that says it even better

Paul Hanson

Gave up on Post… can Kerr stop doing that you play Buddy regularly dog you ain’t playing chess here. Also can we have Oracle back?

Sarcasm 360

That picture sums it up perfectly. No matter how many games they’ve been winning recently.-all the eggs they laid earlier in the season are coming back to haunt them.

Paul Hanson
