So I want to ask you, how high would you say any given team’s offensive ceiling would be if its scheme hinged on the ability of a power forward who can’t reliably score in open space, can’t space the floor, and has an assist to turnover ratio of 2.5 as its engine, and would the offense stand to gain anything by making them take a backseat?

France, Serbia and Germany I'd consider the favorites based on their Olympic performances last summer. Plus you have Luka with Slovenia and Giannis with Greece. I've never signed up for Courtside 1891, but I know them more for providing the highlights to the FIBA YouTube channel. They should also be broadcasting Afrobasket and the Asia Cup along with EuroBasket, which are the Africa and Asia equivalents to EuroBasket in Europe. Not as much talent in those competitions as EuroBasket, but could be something to keep an eye. I did read somewhere that JK was initially going to play for the DR Congo team for Afrobasket, but pulled out due to the current contract stalemate.

2025-08-08 20:14:12 +0000 UTCGiddey makes no sense as a rotation player for us. I don't believe in the shooting (tiny sample), and he'll never be playable as a defender. The dubs (Kerr) always choosing system fit over talent is why the team couldn't score in round 2. Kuminga - as shaky as his handle still is - was the only one capable of putting the ball in the basket. Playing 23 seconds of hot potato you-shoot-no-you is not a winning strategy in any era. Someone other than Steph has to be willing to shoot. And even if he turns into a knockdown shooter, he's still going to give away more on the other end. Swapping assets makes sense in a vacuum, but they can't do it because of the BYC + cap situation - it would hard-cap them at the first apron, so no Horford. Vet mins only. BTW, Utah could sign him right now if they were actually interested. I agree that he'd be a good add for them, but they don't seem to have a coherent team-building philosophy.

2025-08-08 20:03:07 +0000 UTCUnless I’m mistaken, Kuminga for Giddy is the same problem as all the other sign and trades right now, which is that you have to throw extra pieces in the mix to make the numbers work. A big reason nothing is happening is they don’t want to move a guy to move Kuminga, when they can wait 5 months and do the same deals without moving Buddy or Moody. From an asset management perspective it was just never going to make sense to send him out for half his value, whatever that value was. They used this off season to let him find out what his market is and gather information. Now when the base year compensation rule comes off in January they all have a good idea what the options are and can move without paying the penalty.
