This episode was fantastic. I really appreciate the nuance you both applied to this conversation. It’s so rare to have such a genuine and principled examination of gender like this - and I’m now very excited to read more into the french feminist materialists! Brett, since you mentioned sci-fi that examines gender, if you haven’t read Le Guin’s “Left Hand of Darkness” yet I think it would be exactly what you’re looking for. Incredibly radical for it’s time, and probably what helped me personally open my mind to something other than our rigid gender binary. All the best!

The universe has a way of delivering stuff to us when are least expecting it but need it. My 18 year old daughter and I were always challenging each other’s world view since she was 12 and found Ben Shapiro. I was a 35 year old Obama supporter, at the time, and through our cultural/ political jousting she began to understand the world from a different perspective. Over the last six years I have had my own awakening by understanding and viewing the world through a historical/ dialectical materialist perspective. She is now one of our strongest comrades. She pushes back against the narratives that she hears from others at school. We are of the working poor and Having grown up in this world and attending the “rich public school” in our area she knows all to well the privileges of some and the suffering of others. I say all this because upon listening to this program I immediately forwarded it on to her. After listening to it we engaged is some wonderful dialogue that I feel not only brought us closer together, but hit me personally in a way that it might not have had our circumstances been just a little different. This show helped illuminate some of my ignorance and gave words to feelings she has and had. Thank you for the continued effort to bring us these shows. I appreciate you. Comrade Across the River
