War in Europe: Understanding the Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Alyson and Breht discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and wrestle with the following questions: Is Russia imperialist, and is this an inter-imperialist conflict? What is the nature of the Ukrainian State? Is Ukraine really fighting for democracy? Are we entering a multipolar world order? What do these events tell us about NATO and US hegemony? How should we understand revolutionary defeatism in this conflict? What role do nazis play in all of this? What is Putin's endgame?

Ultimately, I hold no sympathy for any state. They're all enemies of the working class. The Russian /state/ is concerned about NATO on its borders and the European and American /states/ are pushing NATO. The Russian, Ukrananian, and all other working peoples have no interest for or against NATO. Still, they're the ones who really lose, no matter how this war ends for the states. Unless the states are demolished, we will continue to lose. At the least, be careful when saying "Russia wants X" or "Ukraine is Y". Be specific: people are not their governments or borders.
