Interactive Video Question

Hey, quick open-ended question:

I'm having a mini conference this weekend with Grant Sanderson (3blue1brown), Aatish Bhatia (http://www.empiricalzeal.com) and Jasper Palfree (http://minutelabs.io) about future math/physics video projects on youtube, possible interactive projects (like more MinuteLabs), possible physics course video series (like Grant's "Essence of Calculus" but for quantum mechanics), etc. I am SUPER excited about this, but it's also a kind of scary new super wide open set of possibilities.

So I figured I'd ask here, are any of these things more or less interesting to you? What would you be most excited about? Were you even aware of the existence of MinuteLabs, and would you be interested in following it if we restart making more?

Patreon is an important part of my projects (and Grant's as well!), so it seems only appropriate to check in with you.

Thanks for your support and I'm excited to make more things for you, whatever they may be,

Henry

Yoruly deserve to succeed

First, THANK YOU, Henry et al, for Minute Physics. Second, I agree with Jeff Barbose: Minute Physics does a great service by sharing line-art animation visualizations of physics concepts. I think videos showing the quantum physics behind everyday phenomena (e.g., MAGNETS: How Do They Work? (Derek optional)) have the most impact. The "inside-baseball"-type physics videos (e.g., Quantum SHAPE-SHIFTING: Neutrino Oscillations) are compelling to us nerds, but have a smaller potential audience. Thanks.

Thanks for all the thoughts and comments here! Grant is sitting on my couch right now :)

Interesting point, thanks for sharing!

Keep it up!

I had seen the planet simulation from minute labs a long time ago, and played with it for hours, wasn’t aware there was more. Those things are amazing, and as a teacher, invaluable! I’d gladly support them to make more! And I too would love to see an “Essence of Quantum Mechanics” series.

"Essence of calculus but for quantum mechanics" => where do I sign ?

That's a great group of people that's going to meet, Henry. At this point, everything's been so high-quality that I trust whatever you do decide to come up with. Two things I"ll say that do help ME understand new things: visualization and animation. My science background is in Biology and Cell Biology, and if there's anything I could contribute if any of your talks head in that direction, I'd love to help!

Jeff Barbose

Suggested topic : What is a visualization of Clifford Algebras and why is it more suited for application across hard problems in physics, math, chemistry and biology?

Chase Turner

Grant's work is always impressive and conveys the right balance of interest/learning in his videos. I'd definitely be down with more collaborative videos if it means breaking the mold and trying new things. There's very little to lose!

John Lee

all of them sound great! personally my favourite videos are those with the cutting edge (at least for me) quantum stuff, which is unknown for usual humans. a series would be awesome too, maybe there you can get deeper into the interesting things (maybe even real math behind the scenes :D) minutelabs are lots of fun, and i think it can help lots of kids understanding how the world works, so maybe that one has the most educational value. anyhow, i'll consume whatever you guys make!

Máté Katona

I think there is a dearth of some sort of middle ground between concepts of quantum mechanics and a get in the guts and understand quantum mechanics so I'm all for Essence of Quantum Mechanics if it isn't just concepts repackaged. PBS Space Time is a channel that swing on both sides but never that middle ground.

Peter Frank

Sounds cool, I'll watch it

Freek Jansen

And Quantum Mechanics!

Ty Wilkins

An "Essence of Physics" series would be absolutely fantastic

Andrew Marder

sure!
