You bet Kevin. I’ll be up your way in early March. I’ll keep you posted. Hoping to meet up. For an iced tea.

Pat O'Connell

Hey Pat, great to hear from you, it's been a while buddy. 👍

Kevin Hicks

Yes, that was a great road trip we did, down into Utah & Arizona. Cool that you now have 2 sweaters, I remember you had a bit of trouble with TeeSpring but glad they sorted it for you. 👍

My favourite squad presentations are always medieval. As a ‘60 model I’ve heard many of the stories covered. I’ve yet to hear any presented with such attention to personal stories of the people attached. And so we are drawn into the story. That and your incredible models (are you aware the the so-called history channel has taken your lead and crudely copied your work?) Add to the fact that your presentations are judged by my all time favourite author Bernard Cornwall. As Being Archer Historian Rex. (There are None Higher) I am never more cheerful as when your Friday presentation has arrived. All your history is my favourite. You make it hard to nail down. As a fellow Cold War I NATO veteran posted to Germany I love hearing of any exploits of The Red Hats in Berlin. The new stories of travelling in The states are awesome. I’m looking forward to seeing our British/Scottish history playing out in Saskatchewan. Anyway. Thanks for doing it your way my friend. Hi to your family 🤠⚔️🇨🇦

Only just noticed this post, but I'm ok for a T-shirt, I've already got x2 jumpers. Favourite and most memorable are two different things. The most memorable one which comes to mind is the recent one where you talk about Berlin and life in the military police. Using a ladder to rescue that family, and then have it collapse. I suppose my fav is the one where you went to some American fort or something to do with the wild west, and I saw all of those white orbs floating around. And you said it was just dust. lol.

Daniel Waddington

Thanks Corinne, I've had loads of practice 😉

My favorite video to date is the one in which you show how you wear your arrows on your belt. I never saw that before and you showed how fast you can shoot arrows pulling them from your belt!. Also you answered a critic who said "real bowen have spines on their arrows." You answered that comment by shooting the enemy in the throat, between the eyes and gave him a hair cut. with your unspined arror! You proudly showed the camera the arrow you made and with a beaming face said it was perfect. I thought Strayavarius couldn't have answered a critic of his violin making any better than that!! I was blown away by your skill as a bowman! Loved it!

My favorite @thehistorysquad video has to be the one on William Marshal, 'The Greatest Knight That Ever Lived.' It’s absolutely inspiring how he rose from being a penniless younger son to serving four kings and becoming a legend of chivalry and loyalty. The way you captured his life—from dominating medieval tournaments to his role in the creation of the Magna Carta—was nothing short of epic. What stood out most to me was how his unwavering dedication and honor shaped not just his own legacy but also the course of English history. Watching that video felt like stepping back into the medieval world, and it reminded me why history is so captivating—because of incredible people like Marshal who defied the odds and lived extraordinary lives. I’d proudly rock a History Squad T-shirt while telling everyone about him!

Alex Dutertre

I need to watch that one!

Bonnie Rodriguez

I know you love the longbow Marco, I have a couple more to publish before I can get out again and shoot some more 👍

Kevin Hicks

#1 in my ranking is you shooting the longbow and giving your insights and stories #2 you showing us around in medieval castles, resp. their remains #3 everything where you have built a model ;-)

Marco Engelbracht

Hey Brian, no I haven't covered Chillingham yet, if we get up north on one of our UK visits, I'll be sure to check it out though. 👍

Kevin Hicks

Cheers Dave!

Kevin Hicks

Cheers Lucy, yes Lady Hicks was indeed sworn in too. That's us together on stage with our friend Dominic, the Mountie, all looking rather smart if I say so myself 😉

Kevin Hicks

😂

Kevin Hicks

Cheers Gary, you know I created that over 15 years ago now for a school examination board. They commissioned me to write and produce 5 films for their curriculum and we had a budget AND a professional film crew, but yes it's a powerful video and one that I'm proud to have made. 👍

Kevin Hicks

My favourite topic is definitely when Kevin reenacts famous medieval battles with his own models and narrates the battle. Truly captivating 😊

Jakob Ekman

Weimar Republic | Why did people follow Hitler? Powerful Kev. Excruciating diligence evident in every aspect of this production. Historically impeccable to the last word & gesture. Acting so good it took me more than a minute to actually recognize Kevin. The medieval vids are amazing too, obviously. Gary Spargo

Kevin shooting the longbow. The models . the dressing in the clothes of the time. Plus the way kevin makes the characters of the time more human/real. It’s the creativity in the history stories that keep my attention and bring me back and encourage me to learn more.

Rena

I really do like the series "Secrets of Medieval Castles." I really like the Goodrich Castle episode. I love these series for all the great history & the secrets of how they were built & used. I also really like the longbow talks & shooting. With the the secrets of a medieval Castle we learn of how the longbow was used to help defend the Castles. The Goodrich episode has some very picturesque views that are awsome. I have to admit I love anything the History Squad produces. Thank you.

Steve Valley

My favorite videos are the ones where you just go out the tha range with your long bow and just share life stories and history while you shoot.

Donald

Anything about castles and longbows. Castles and their subtle differences have always intrigued me. Longbows because I shoot one, though not a lovely English Longbow...yet!

Jim Williams

One of my favourite Kevin moments is from his video on the Berlin wall.In particular the the story where kevin was relieving himself in a bush on the side of the autobahn and magically found himself face to face with a brand spanking new t72 soviet tank. Being one of the first western troops to see one. I would have loved to be in the room to see young Kevin's face when the officers told him what he saw when all he was doing was going to the toilet 🤣

Dan Bennett

Hi Kevin! A) I liked your series on the 100 years War; it was lively, as in all your narratives, and the liveliness brings a fifth dimension to the stories that allows for more exploration. B) I will leave the t-shirt to the younger people; they will enjoy it more than me. C) Congrats for your Canadian citizenship. I presume Lady Hicks participated in the swearing-in, so congrats to her too. D) Have both an Happy New Year!

Luc Drouin

100 % has to be your series on the 100 years war! The whole thing has been an historic journey for me and I've learned so much from it! Everything from sluys to Najera to today's episode Cravant! Not forgetting your medieval surgery techniques! It's all just Brilliant! Different to any other videos available. fun, interesting, detailed, and sometimes shocking! And I bloody love a story about a castle 🏰 all the best, Dave, Walsall, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇨🇦 p.s congratulations on yours and Julie's Canadian citizenship mate 👏 👍🍻

Dave Hagley

I would be delighted :)

I loved your tour of Tamworth Castle. I've been there many years ago and it was great to see it again and to learn more about the castle. It is a beautiful building and I'm so happy it has survived for over 800 years. It gives us a view of what the castles in ruins would have looked like. I just wish more castles had survived. I also loved Chepstow because I haven't been there and another castle I would love to see you tour is Chillingham (or have you already). I haven't been there either.

Brian H

Yes, I've definitely got to get around to telling sharing the legend that is Robin Hood, and I might just need your help 😉

Kevin Hicks

I think my favorite is the one about William Marshall. I had heard of him before here and there, but had never seen a dedicated video about his life. I am amazed how his story weaves itself through so many other significant historical events. Recently I heard that he may have ordered the doors at Chepstow castle in Wales (possibly the oldest doors in the UK as I understand), which is a place I greatly want to visit. So now when I hear his name in other places I know exactly who he is. And he’s a badass! That said, I love all your videos and stories, especially the personal ones so thank you for all you do!

Bonnie Rodriguez

Love you guys covering Goodrich castle as there is a few cheeky cameos by moi, Beccy and a unborn Dougie. Plus all the history what's on my doorstep and as a added bonus getting to meet kev and the ever lovely julie

Richard Macpherson

I’ve always loved the videos where you go thorough castles such as Tamworth I’d lop off me left arm to see you at Warwick recording

PC Brummie

I love the stories of Robin Hood; I've loves the stories since I was 10 years old and the legend started my love of the Medieval peroid and archery and who can tell the stories better than Robin Hood's granddad? :)
