The History of the CIA: Operation Paper and Trouble in the Golden Triangle [pt. 6]

Hi All!

Here's the newest part of the History of the CIA Series. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it below. Especially, I am curious about your thoughts regarding a short section from 25:30-30:19. I am considering cutting this from the version that goes on Youtube. Although I stand by my points articulated, I'm not sure if bringing in the counterinsurgency in Afghanistan into the narrative at this point is useful for the video itself. It's a short segment and is a bit of a digression, so it may become a Patreon exclusive clip. I really value your feedback, did you think that this section was valuable? Did you appreciate this link to the future or did you find it just muddied the waters of the overarching video. Would love to hear your honest thoughts about the video as a whole and this section specifically.

Thanks as always for the support and patience! Bibliography below:

Hey Jim, as mentioned in the tier descriptions, the 25$ tier is in place simply as a courtesy if you wish to contribute more. There is no exclusive content locked behind higher tiers. That said, I am also happy to discuss future projects and feedback you may have, as your generosity and belief in my work is greatly appreciated. As it stands, there are 4 exclusive Secret War in Laos videos on Patreon that are available to all tiers (5$ and up). You’re more than welcome to modify your pledge amount at any time and I totally understand if you chose to.

I was wondering if the $25 pledge gives me more than the videos I already have seen as a member on YouTube.

In no particular order: Movies: Dr. Strangelove Apocalypse Now Z (probably the best film ever made about Gladio) JFK Network Full Metal Jacket Come and See Platoon Seven Days in May (apparently JFK asked Frankenheimer to make this movie, it came out right after Kennedy was killed and was very prophetic) Incendies Battle of Algiers Rome Open City The French Connection As for novels, I don’t read much fiction but I can whole heartedly recommend Thomas Pynchon. If you haven’t read any of his work, start with The Crying of Lot 49. It’s a quick read and will get you used to his prose. Gravity’s rainbow is his masterpiece but it’s very challenging. I’m working through it right now, and it’s a real effort. My favourite novel of all time is The Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe.

EWO

I was wondering what your favorite fiction books and movies that deal with this and similar topics are?
