“Where are we going?” you ask.
Captain Gale gives you a mischievous grin and then taps the side of her head with a single finger. “The pirates can follow us to an island. Unless it’s a free port, or one guarded by the navy, we won’t be safe. But if we head to the Vortex, they’ll never be able to follow.”
Some of the nearby sailors gasp. Even your librarian mentor looks taken aback.
[Academic Knowledge] You’ve heard of “the Vortex” in some of the texts you’ve read. It’s a spot in the ocean that supposedly sucks up ships. According to what you remember, the ships never return.
Captain Gale points off the starboard side. “To the Vortex! We’ll be long gone before they even know what’s happening.”
The first mate shouts, “Aye, aye!” and then happily complies with the demand.
The sailors aren’t as eager, but they do as they’re told.
Twain narrows his feline eyes. “Do you think our captain is loony? Or maybe we lucked out.”
What do you do?
A) Insist on going to an island.
B) “I think the captain is a genius. The Vortex sounds amazing.”
C) “I think the captain is loony. Let’s escape on a dinghy with Sorric.”
D) “I think the captain is loony. Let’s escape on a dinghy.”
E) “What do you think we should do?”
