Hey peeps!
Here is another entry from the Bestiary, this time the star tiger. Hopefully you enjoy!
Shami
Description: Star tigers are majestically mystical creatures that appear to be a white tiger with silver stripes and bright blue eyes. The tips of their tails are transparent, ghost-like, though the closer the tail is to the body, the more solid and opaque it becomes. Star tigers have extremely long tails, that grow in length the longer they live.
Trial of Worth: In order to bond with a star tiger, one must venture into the depths of their crystal caverns and make it through the maze they’ve created to find the heart of their den.
Tier:3
Reproduction: Fable—star tigers are born when a star shard falls into a dark crag and tumbles into a cave. The light of the star shard’s glow bouncing off the dark cave walls will spawn a single star tiger cub that then inhabits the cave.
Evocation:Disintegrating Flames—star tigers and their arcanists evoke white flames that tear apart anything they touch. Unlike the flames of a rizzel, which slowly abrades what it touches, the white flames of a star tiger gouge out and teleport several inches of material at a time.
Manipulation:Animals—star tigers and their arcanists manipulate and control non-magical animals. This cannot compel them to kill themselves or their children.
Augmentation:Teleportation—when augmenting themselves and others, star tigers and their arcanists cause teleportation. The more powerful the arcanist, the farther the teleportation (and the more objects can be teleported at once).
Imbuing: Magic Reduction—when star tiger parts are used in trinket or artifact creation, they make for great shields against magical effects.
Aura: Shooting Stars—when a star tiger arcanist creates an aura, the sky becomes a black canvas painted with hundreds of moving and shimmering stars. One by one, they fall to the ground, crashing into the land and creating craters of destruction. These “stars” are teleported into existence from another dimension, and often look like crystals. These falling objects never strike the star tiger or its arcanist, but they will hit everyone else in the nearby area.
Innate Abilities: Star tigers and their arcanists don’t get motion sickness, have remarkable balance, and are immune to poisons and venoms.
True Form Type: Geas—the star tiger arcanist must collect 112 star shards and bring them to a cave that has never known light in order for their eldrin to transform.
True Form Appearance: A true form star tiger absorbs the 112 star shards and glows with a constant magical hue. Its body glitters, and star flake away like a soft snow whenever it moves.
True Form Ability: Celestial Shield—a true form star tiger, as well as its arcanist, reduces the effectiveness of all purely magical attacks (flames, ice, lightning, etc.). This reduction means most of these magical attacks barely harm the star tiger or its arcanist, but they can still be injured, just over a much longer period of time.
In-World Lore:Star tigers are seen as extremely magical and often sought out by mystic seekers and bounty hunters. However, due to the unusual requirements for their birth, star tigers are extremely rare. Due to this, anyone who manages to bond with a star tiger gains a fair amount of fame and prestige.
Real-World Inspiration: Star tigers are loosely based off the Hindu myth of the rakshasa—a demon with a tiger-like appearance who is most powerful at night. In the Hindu myth, they are shapeshifters who can take the appearance of any animal, hence why the star tigers have their specific manipulation ability.
