The villages would send their best wrestlers to compete each year, with the larger towns holding their own selection tournaments before the festival. Entry submissions happen during the first few days of the festival. Once that's been completed, organizers create a bracket and schedule for the competitors. To the winner went honor, fame, and their choice of mating partners.
Once eliminated from the competition, the defeated would be paired with their respective competitor for mating. This means that 7th place in the women's tournament would mate with 7th place in the men's and so on. On occasion, victors would be invited to join, often if the match was hard fought and both competitors participated with honor. This was particularly common with first and second place, where the four competitors would share each other, often in the middle of one of the wrestling pits.
It was not entirely uncommon for a match to turn sexual, as the stakes and nature of the competition would arouse many of the competitors. The most famous example would be a woman's final, where the two wrestlers began having competitive intercourse in the middle of the match. The result was practically a draw as both women brought each other to orgasm in front of the crowd. The end result of that match was a mass orgy as the aroused crowd engaged in open lovemaking while the competitors took their lovers there in the ring. This match would directly influence the creation of the Valkyrian Order, a secret group of women who engage in a sexualized form of wrestling.
