Hey everyone! Panam's animation is finally ready to be released this week!
Despite consisting of a 30 second loop, this project was a lot more challenging than I expected. My main focus was to make the animation as realistic as possible. The animation is not just a repetitive animation, though. I made sure to add several variations to Panam's lower body; not to mention her upper body, which has completely unique movement throughout the entire length of the animation.
Switching to 60 FPS made a huge difference in making the animation feel more realistic. In the past, I wouldn’t even consider animating at 60 FPS—too many frames and way too much render time. But with EEVEE, that’s now an option.
Speaking of EEVEE, I’ve made some solid progress in understanding how this render engine works. On the previous Ada animation, I ran into a lot of lighting glitches and other weird issues that I didn’t fully understand. This time, I figured out a few new tricks to improve the scene’s look and make the lighting feel more authentic.
On the physics department, I did run into a few problems. The usual jiggle system I use didn’t work for some reason, so I had to switch to a different method. It’s not physics-based and won’t work for every situation, but it did the job for this project, as you can probably tell from the GIFs. I also used a more elaborate setup to animate Panam’s hair, and I’m pretty happy with how that turned out too.
Overall, I’m really happy with how the animation came together. I originally planned to keep it much simpler, so I’m glad I pushed a bit further and ended up with something extra.
As usual, early access for this week's post will be available on Wednesday. Thank you all for your continued support!
All characters seen in my work are fictional and consenting adults over the age of 18.
