If I remember correctly, episode 12 is the "bridge" episode between the original adaptation (which got ahead of the manga and went in different direction entirely) and Brotherhood, which is more faithful. In any case, episode 12 really feels to me like the episode where Brotherhood goes from being a decent, if rushed, recap of what the OG fans knew to a series in its own right. It gets juicier from here, and basically the second half of the series is a nonstop gallop in terms of plot, time, fights, reveals, etc. Loving the journey with you guys.

2025-05-09 09:21:04 +0000 UTCI was curious to see how you guys would react to the reveal that Ed and Al's dad is still alive and apparently wandering the countryside being mysterious, but I forgot how dense the rest of 4x12 is in terms of worldbuilding and character content. In between the Izumi and Sig intros, the Ed and Al training backstory, the reveal that Izumi also attempted human transmutation, and getting more context for why Ed can perform alchemy just by clapping his hands, there's a lot going on in this episode. One of the many things this show does well is introducing the story and characters at a bit of a slower pace so that you have time to settle in a bit before the story really starts moving. But we are VERY close to the point where the action starts to ramp up a TON, and I can't wait. Super hyped for next week.

2025-05-05 18:21:55 +0000 UTCI'm surprised you guys didn't seem more interested in the conversation during episode 11. Ed sleeping so much and having his growth stunted because he might be supplying Al's body with the nutrients it needs to keep surviving was a wild reveal to me on my first viewing. I thought you guys would have a lot more thoughts on that possibility. To me it always felt like a really well plotted detail the creator introduced since Ed's height is made such a big deal. Although the episode threw in later that the weight of the automail might also have a hand in keeping him short, I always felt like it was more of a secondary source than the primary. 🤷♀️
