I love this movie, but I can see how people would find it predictable going on 24 years now. It’s objectively not all over the place though, I’ll thumb war you over that. 😁 Anyway, I always appreciate you guys giving your authentic reactions as opposed to going along to get along, so keep up the good work!

Maybe they’ve already seen a certain “dead people” classic? It can be hard to live up to…

Maisie

Yes. Unfortunately, Nothing we can do about it. Auto focus will do that once in a while.

Badd Medicine

Just FYI, there have been a couple moments on this movie (and several on the Lovely Bones reaction) that the camera on you guys seems to shift focus and go a bit fuzzy.

Maisie

Are you talking about the Korean Movie? Kang Ha neul?

As a longtime fan of the gothic sub-genre, The Others (2001) mostly ticked all the right boxes for me. From the very first frame, the film drew me in with its sublime cinematography, which masterfully crafted an atmosphere of isolation and dread. It builds anticipation through a careful layering of suspenseful breadcrumbs, drawing the viewer deeper into its eerie, enigmatic world. The emotional undertones and plot twists are handled with subtlety and restraint, which only heightens their impact when they finally arrive. My only criticism lies with the pacing in the middle of the film, particularly surrounding the arrival of the husband. This sequence felt unnecessary and added little to the narrative beyond underlining Nicole Kidman’s character’s paranoia—something that had already been well-established. The scene, which stretches over ten minutes, could have been trimmed significantly or replaced with just a few lines of dialogue to achieve the same emotional effect without slowing the crescendoing cadence. 4.1/5 Answers. P.S. Please never apologize or be afraid to voice your honest opinion Diamond Dave, as you yourself have said on many occasions, film is subjective. I knew after your guys Nosferatu review that this film wouldn't be your guys cup of tea but hey, at least you gave it a try.

out of interest, have there been any ghost story movies you guys have rated high? (except mike flanagan stuff) i'm wondering if it's not the genre for you

GillyBean

I know a lot of people love this movie but I always found it to be too slow and boring. Very hard to get through. The twist was the only good thing about it but it didn't make up for the rest of the movie not being good. Plus it was easy to call early on (and I saw this when it first hit tv after its theatrical release). And unlike other movies where the twist draws you back, this movie is a one and done and I never recommend it. When I saw it win the polls, I was surprised and figured you all wouldn't care for it either which is why I skipped to the scores. I would give it a 2 solely for the kids and their acting.

Megan

yikes, those scores and reaction.

I totally agree with them that the movie really didn't hit me either. But I really liked the kids' acting, with the brother and sister dynamic was really funny. Those are the only parts I go back and rewatch. And I agree with Mason Quinn about the Mike Flanagan tv series. Just have you sucked in from the first episodes and till this day I still go back and watch those series especially, The haunting of hill house.

Hey guys, would love to recommend 'FORGOTTEN'. It's such an underrated movie but a great watch👍

Ashley H.N

'Forgotten' is a korean psychological thriller movie I would love to recommend👍

Ashley H.N

I saw this in theaters when it came out and no one that I've heard of saw the ending coming. Remember when this movie came out there wasn't anything like it. This and The Sixth Sense started the Psychological Thriller genre. So yes, maybe now after more than 20 years you can predict the end. But that's easier to say now, after seeing things like this for this long.

I think in which time you watch certain movies counts… in 2025 maybe it doesn’t surprise anymore, but I can guarantee you that 20 years ago it was shocking!
