The Tommo Way

1st time watch with you! I love long takes so technically this was so interesting (please react to The Family Man soo its long takes are really good 😁). From the get go it's implied the kid at least knows something because he never even asks about who got killed or why he is arrested exactly. Still the CCTV it at the end was gut wrenching for various reasons, the fact it wasn't an accident or he wasn't just a witness, and the dad's distress. And now he's gonna have to tell the mom 😥 Weirdly this represents why I don't want kids. I love kids, I work as a tutor, but I have anxiety and having kids would mean debilitating anxiety about something bad happening to them. But also, the possibility that my kid could end up hurting someone else on purpose is also terrifying. That's both sides of nightmare material showed at the end of this episode 😨 Oak got quite animated here at the end lol. I get it. I've witnessed a lot of bad parenting in my life. IMO the issue isn't being your kid's friend. I know I speak even though I'm not a parent but I think I'm pretty good with both kids and teens as a tutor and I'm always more friendly than a tutor generally is. Same when I was teaching 4th and 5th graders. IMO you can be their friend but still look into what they're doing and monitor them, the same way your friend will tell you if you are behaving in a way that isn't good for you. But too many parents let their kids watch anything online or on tv, don't have proper discussions with them, etc. On the other hand, parents that are too cold, too judgy, too strict are a big problem too 😖

It could be different in other countries but in terms of Jamie being out at 10pm… I think that it could very much be dependent on where in the UK you live. I had a very very strict mum growing up but even then my curfew from age 12 was when the last bus past our house ran, which was after 11pm. Almost all my friends were the same. Also being northern UK we didn’t even lock our doors in our neighbourhood at nights or during the day, Most still don’t. Crime was and still is very rare. Violence amongst kids was very much unheard of in particular knife related in our city. Of course very big cities especially London are a completely different matter but as this place is likely a northern town it would make sense why Jamie didn’t have an early curfew. Also I think the uniforms might have caused some confusion but the school Jamie goes to is not a private school but a local comprehensive. Which is free like all education is until university here in the UK. We have private schools of course but it’s not typically the norm unless you are very very rich. Also all schools in the UK have uniforms from jumpers and cardigans in primary school through to blazers in secondary school. Really enjoyed this reaction. Super excited for the next 2 episodes which in my eyes were particularly stellar.

You have to bare in mind that a large amount of parents don’t know what there kids are doing outside the home or online/social media. This is what this programme highlights. I see this every day in my job within the education sector, where I see the dangers and deal with the reprocussions to help kids and families. Education and awareness is needed on sides in this programme and in real life. Kids do not realise that once it’s online it never truly disappears, no matter how much education you give they struggle to make that connection. Parents also don’t realise that what their child is doing on their phone is their responsibility in the eyes of the law in the UK as they are the one who pay the phone bill and for the phone as whole. Which means they can be charged for some of their child’s actions like sending nudes or explicit content.
