yes technically Anne Rice's vampires CAN sleep in a comfy room and a bed as long as it is completely light proof... they dont have to sleep in a coffin for some supernatural reason. in the old days they used tombs with very heavy stone covers that even multiple men could not lift and open so that was a thing about security and not being discovered because they are pretty much comatose during the day

2025-06-23 09:19:21 +0000 UTCspeak your truth oak!!! sam reid IS lestat incarnate. both sam reid and jacob anderson do a phenomenal job with these roles. the characters just have so much more heart and (ironically) humanity in the series and that's obviously in large part due to writing but in equal measure is thanks to their amazing acting. i love how much you're loving this, can't wait until next weekend!

2025-06-23 00:58:54 +0000 UTCSomeone needs to tell Oak that it's practically the general consensus that Sam is a better Lestat than Tom lol and that's with no disrespect to Tom as, in my opinion, he was the best (maybe 2nd best after Kirsten Dunst as Claudia) part of that movie. And as someone who has both watched the movie and read the book I'll also add that Jacob is KILLING it as Louis. He's got the best adaptation of the character down for sure. Since you asked about how closely this follows the books: the show is both more true to the books and not at the same time. There are some MAJOR changes that drastically shift the story from the og like changing the race of Louis (and other character's to come), bringing the time period up from the 18th-19th century into the 20th-21st, and by making Louis and Lestat's romantic relationship more explicit rather than implicit. The original book was written and released in the 70s so there's obviously reasons why Anne Rice didn't take their relationship there right away, but the show wanted to get rid of any ambiguity there. But where the 90s movie was more faithful in terms of time period, aesthetics and the having the actors look more like the charcters, the show is NAILING the complexities of the characters, their traumas and motivations, their desires and comflicts, etc. And it's taking the time to fully flesh out details that make it more accurate and true to the original story than the movie could have. Also Oak basically got it with the coffin stuff! It's not only more comfortable for the vampires, but also more safe. It's like sleeping with a weighted blanket AND knowing that all your doors and windows are locked and you've got security alarms set up lol they'd feel very secure. It also probably emmulates what it'd be like to sleep buried under the ground, which as dead things, is what they're supposed to be doing. I'm so glad y'all are enjoying this so far, this show is so underrated its a shame! But here's to going on this journey (again) with you guys lol Next week CANNOT come fast enough!

Since this iteration hit the screen, I've only seen people praise Sam for encompassing Lestat. I personally love both Lestats, even Stuart Townsend's version (Queen of the Damned). I think all 3 did well in their interpretations of the character. But if someone asks me who the best is, it's Sam no contest!

I read the books in the 80s and was very disappointed in Tom and Brad when the movie came out. I've waited literally decades for my Louis and my Lestat.
