I made the mistake of watching this 1st. I watched the film after & it was just ok. I couldn't even finish the book (sorry, I really tried!) as I couldn't connect with the characters. But it made me appreciate the changes they made for the show! Louis is the most unlikable main character I've read in a while but Jacob and the writers made me fall in love with him without completely abandoning who Anne Rice made him to be (still whiny & imperfect but sympathetic and lovable). He went from a character I disliked to probably my favourite. And Cruise was good, but Sam was BORN for this role.
