What makes you think the shapeshifter and the monster aren't the same person? It would be very easy for the shapeshifter to transform into the monster. Remember Star Trek: The Next Generation the diplomats from that one planet with the girl that Wesley Crusher falls in love with and the girl's bodyguard who turns into that monster. Also the continuity seems pretty solid that Xavier is the monster, considering someone burned the cave down immediately after Xavier found out that Wednesday found it. And as to what Quinn said about the comment about heels, I think that just is congruent with Wednesday's personality of being completely counter culture, and most women wear heels but there's kind of an anti-heels movement that is similar to a lot of the other things Wednesday says like for instance, about what happened when the pilgrims came to America etc. the POV that they slaughtered the Native Americans, etc. I agree it doesn't fit 100% but it more fits the archetype she is playing.

Wednesday pretends like she loves death, torture and serial killers but now that one is going around killing people she does all she can to get him arrested. Same way at some point she said it would give her a bad reputation if she failed at killing someone, but she got upset to see her dad was suspected of being a murderer. She says she doesn't want friends or a boyfriend but we see that's not true. I'd say a big part of her persona is just self protection. We see that in the backstory when her pet scorpion got killed and she vowed to never cry again. IMO the cold, scary attitude is a way to shield herself and there are moments when the mask slips. I don't know if the sentence about heels is a throwaway or not but MQ's interpretation is correct I think, and after the comment about heels she did open up and said she wished she cared more about what others think, showing a truer or deeper aspect of her personality.
