Take note Disney, THIS is how you do a live action remake. This was an absolute blast. Loved every single second of this. Really looking forward to the 2nd one now. In my eyes, this is perfection as live action remakes go. 5/5 for me.

I'm Batman

I think one big reason this live action remake works is because they *built* the sets and made dragon puppets that looked like the dragons. Not relying solely on cgi like so many movies do helps both actors and making it feel real even if the cgi isn't "perfect"(I thought it fitted this movie perfectly). I'm glad you guys enjoyed it as much as I did, managed to catch it in the cinema, surreal to see places I've been(Faroe Islands) but could 100% believe dragons once lived there 😅

Back again! Gotta admit, I had a bit of trepidation regarding this live action, as most people who adored the animated films like I do, I'm sure. On my first viewing, I liked it well enough. Of course, Toothless is just so so adorable like his animated counterpart. Other than Stoick and Hiccup, it took me awhile to warm up with the other characters as I'm just so used to the animated ones. It's hard to watch something like this, when you've watched the original so many times you pretty much committed each scenes to memory. But on my 2nd and 3rd viewing, I came to love it even more. Now it's one of those movies that I'd be watching over and over and over again just like the original one! Because it is live action, it is much more emotional than the original for sure. I also love the fact that they added some nuances with Astrid, Snotlout and the village history. That was a pleasant surprise. I choked up in some scenes even though I already knew what was gonna happen. Kudos to Stoick and Hiccup actors who put so much emotions in every scene they did! Specially Gerard Butler. Man what a fantastic actor. Now I'm not so sure I'll be ready for the 2nd film (which is already confirmed by the way). The animated film already wrecked me, I don't know if I'd recover watching the live action one. My only regret is that I didn't get to see this in the big screen.

Okay! This is probably one of the best live action movie adaptations I've seen so far! But! I was sad, that they left out the scene after the one that the Answer missed in the movie. Where they are sitting on the cliff at sunset with the little dragons that try to snatch some of toothless' fish. Because that is the scene that gives Hiccup the idea on how to defeat the Alpha in the end (blowing him up from the inside). But other then that it was great.

This is probably the best live action remake so far. I hope they nail #2 too!

This was the best live action remake of any movie for me! Reasons, when I think of "live action" I'm thinking of details, lines, scenes of the animation that I want to see live! Not a new version of it. I want them to keep the magic of the animation and just transfer it to a live version. What Disney really does wrong with their live actions, they try to come up with new ways to make the cartoon feel new. They don't realize they're taking away all the magic that made their animations work in the first place! Nobody was asking for a new version, we wanted the magic of the animation to come to life! DreamWorks did what I always wanted to see! The magic of the animation, but more spectacular!
