I’m with Oak… this was really bad

Tyler Daigle

I watched this with my dad as we had watched all of karate kid and cobra kai and we already knew this was going to be bad in the first 25 minutes. This film honestly would have been better if they used the villain from Jaden Smiths karate kid with some sort of redemption arc. The girls acting also pissed me off so much because every time she talked she was shaking her head constantly. Also the tournament made no sense simply because it happened within like 10 minutes with no explanation. I have no idea how this movie has 90% rating on rotten tomatoes either. If they do do a sequel I do think it will be better simply because johnny will be a main character and it will be the cobra kai characters.

I loved the old karate kid movies but couldn't get into any of the new stuff it is just not so excited for me like when I was young kid. The same is for example Bloodsport and other Van Damme movies me 13/14 years old loved every single movie and we all wanted to be in like Karate Kid or Van Damm but me now old just cannot enjoy the fighting scenes they are Goofy. I hope I am not the only one who thinks like that

I enjoyed this movie as well, but yeah, critically, it was bad. I can rewatch any of the other Karate Kid movies, but this one was just one watch and done. My ranking of all Karate Kid Movies: 1. Karate Kid (1984) 2. Karate Kid 2 3. Karate Kid (2010) 4. Karate Kid 3 5. Next Karate Kid 6. Karate Kid Legends

FINALLY, sorry but I just finally felt a sense of relief that someone finally abhors this movie as much as I do... And that's coming from someone who's a massive fan of martial arts, the Karate Kid series, seen the entirety of Cobra Kai (and enjoyed it and acknowledged that it didn't take itself too seriously while also the lore of Karate Kid), and a lover of all things Jackie Chan. I was really excited for this movie, but I felt like I was in pain the entire movie, just wincing. I just didn't enjoy any of the writing and the characters didn't feel like people at all. Any ounce of depth they were trying to give these characters felt forced. Like the Karate Kid plot points were just a checklist of points to cover. Action sequences, to me, serve similar purposes to a musical sequence in musicals. There's a purpose for them, whether for plot or for exploring characters. And while the sequences may have seemed cool here, it just felt like it was done for the purposes of having a cool sequence. Character-wise and even plot-wise at times, it didn't make much sense. While some may say, "Oh but Cobra Kai is goofy", I like to think that Cobra Kai intensely respects the original Karate Kid story and people behind it. Everyone from the past that was brought onto that show had a purpose and moments to shine. Even when it was corny, you could tell that it was almost with intent that the people behind it realized how ridiculous it was (albeit my thoughts waver as the seasons continue). But in this, I did not sense any of that acknowledgement. And even if it was extremely illogical at some points, the way it was delivered and how the characters were established had some heart. You grew attached to these characters because they were developed. The way Ralph Macchio was put into this didn't really feel like that at all. I felt no heart, just cheap references. I realize this is rambly but I mean, hey, to anyone who did find something out of it. I'm glad people did. To each their own. :)

I'm reading comments before watching. I had a vibe the movie was going to be just cash grab, I'll see if I change my mind but these comments makes me think I won't lol
