Placemats, Plates, Plans

Hey Everyone!

Maybe it's just me, but inspiration for live shows often strikes me in diners for some reason, especially those with paper place mats! I don't know what it is! Maybe it's the lighting, the AM radio playing over the speakers, the clinking of plates and low level conversations from diners at the other booths. At any rate, maybe it's the mix of winding down from a run of shows. The mind quiets a little... and then all of a sudden, I'm asking if I can borrow a pen to frantically get an idea down on paper. So behold, a feverish sketch of a possible stage plot for our next live production!

I've been discussing and brainstorming with the team about possible ways we could set up a stage in order to create space for a new style of our hybrid theatre/cinema shows such as Nufonia Must Fall and The Storyville Mosquito. And although we are still actively touring and evolving those productions today, many of the early presenters we work with are asking, "We want to see that next show, when will it be ready to tour? "

The next show will be based around Creatures of the Late Afternoon. The story is about a ragtag gang of creatures (on the endangered species list), who band together to save the Natural History Museum through the power of music! Those of you who know the album, can probably hear how several of the tracks were designed to be music cues for this soon to be live show "Action Movie Caper."

Anyhow, here is cleaned up version of the above placemat blueprint:

and also one I drew more from the audience perspective:

Here is a sketch of one of the main protagonists... a sea turtle!

** Did any of you who played the Creatures board game recruit this turtle into their band?? (He was one of the drummers!)

Anyhow, I'll keep you posted on how this moves forward in future months. The team and I are very excited to continue developing this show. We've learned a lot on these current tours and are excited to explore and discover new ways of telling these stories live!

This will be a fun one for sure!! More updates soon!

Thank you for your support!
