Sitting on 3 videos

I am currently sitting on 3 finished videos that have been finished for 3 weeks, and am half finished with a 4th. The reason i can't publish them is because the sponsors are stalling, delaying, and constantly pushing up the publication date. I think they are trying to get me to publish one video per month. But I want to publish one video per week. Because i want to see if viewers like weekly videos more.

Either way, I am being increasingly impatient. So I am going to give you all 3 videos here to watch. And I hope in a week or two I can finally start publishing them.

PS: I like the longer videos and series and, considering their quality, I don't mind the wait. But I'm thinking that shorter, more frequent and more current events-oriented videos might boost the viewership, especially if the short subjects could tie into some of your long-form works and act as trailers/teasers. Example: any recent story about the US/Mexican border relating to a theme or topic in one of the videos in your great series..

I'm co-chair of an Ukraine solidarity group in my area of upstate New York State and I shared the Poland series with the group members since I thought it gave invaluable background to current Polish/Ukrainian relations. Also, I'd be very glad to see a similar multi-part series on Ukrainian nationalism from the mid-19th century to the present. I'm sure you'd do an excellent job in navigating the twists and turns of this very complex subject and showing the connections between past and present.

Dear Kraut, I am beginning to understand your conundrum. I believe most of us here prefer your long-form, videos, but it is clear that the algorithm values shorter and more frequent posts. On one hand, with very long videos you trade regularity for polish, thereby attracting a small but very passionate following that is willing to pay for your videos. On the other hand, with short videos you get more views and subscribers by appeasing the god-algorithm, but your videos are viewed and digested differently. It seems that you are trying shorter form videos. This is great; I am always excited when you pop up on my feed. However, I can't help but think that shorter videos are more easily taken for granted. Your series on Turkey, Mexico/America, China/India are GIGANTIC WORKS OF ART that I rewatch regularly. This is, to me, the sort of content that gets people extremely passionate and invested in YOU. Long videos require commitment, yes. But you reward our commitment! And before you know it, your viewer forms a much more meaningful (and perhaps more lucrative) relationship with your videos. May I ask, why the change in video length? Why the change in animation style? I won't ask about the sound effects, I think the video comments underline that enough. I am sorry for not taking my patron privileges more seriously; I think it would have been valuable for me to voice this beforehand. This is already too long, but I'll end with this opinion: I think you should double down on long form videos and advertise your patreon more aggressively. You've seen Hbomberguy... this tactic works. And you already have a winning formula with the old style. Thank you again for your work. I wish I could afford to give you more. I am very proud to be able to contribute, albeit in this very small way.

Really glad you decided to go on with the Poland videos. The information in this video is too important ti ignore. The world really needs to know of the effort Central-Eastern Europe has gone through to prosper after the Cold War and take note of these 25 years when the former Eastern Bloc was largely forgotten by the west. Hope you can find a good way to end this series now that we know Europe has to deal with Trump's isolationism. I would say you keep making videos at a sustainable pace, and you should be spend time doing good research, because that is what sets you above many others. Once a week sounds like it could burn you out, maybe once every 2 weeks would be more sustainable?

Ah I see! Well I hope that this ”experiment” will work out. I’ll continue watching, whether the videos are short or long. Keep up the good work and thanks for the replies!

More dedicated viewers probably like the longer videos. I know I do. I’m guessing that many who find “Kraut” in the algorithm may be little intimidated by a 30 minute or 1 hour+ long video to try. I personally appreciate it when all the related “short” videos are recombined at the end of the series into one long-format video. Gives you the best of both worlds.

Michael Wagner

I did, but I think people wont watch those short ones.

Throughout your videos, it becomes clearer that the US, with its victories and growth throughout the 20th Century, absorbed the very Prussian militarism that Central Europe abandoned—often directly through absorbing old Nazi talent in the early Cold War. Compare Cheney and Rumsfeld to Palmer and Kirkonnen…

Thanks

This video series is one of your best and I look forward to sharing it with folks! It seems the US and Germany made the exact same mistake over the past 30 years: not realizing that the Cold War ended and maintaining previously-successful policies out of sheer inertia and a lack of imagination. A state needs to be able to honestly look at its capabilities, potentials and goals, and realize just how dynamic they are—because other states are doing the exact same thing! Policy inertia, born of imagination failure before that and arrogance from success before that, is deeply dangerous to states throughout history. But can such paths be changed without crises? Where historically have crises been averted instead of charged at?

David Malinsky

Have you thought about having two channels? One for the longer video essays and one for shorter videos or takes on current news etc.?

The_Egg_King

That is exactly what i want to find out.

Kraut

I really enjoy longer videos and don’t really care about the time in between them weeks or months. But maybe more frequent posting will help in reaching more viewers.
