Updated Ring 2-5 and 2-6

I've revised the design for Ring 2-5 and Ring 2-6 to accommodate Glynn Harper's fantastic light set for the data panel. Now unfortunately, this is a new revision to the core body so I haven't got a retrofit as it would require cutting the Frame and updating. Happy to supply just the rear panel as a file if anyone wants to attempt it, apologies for those (including me) who have already assembled. It still works with LEDs etc, but this would be a manual build of soldering and controlling via Arduino (or Christmas fairy lights as I've seen recently)!. Thank you so much to Sean for suggesting this and arranging a set so I can do the design. Note the light set also supports the charging panel so I will be updating this also in the future. There's the old files (renamed old) and the revised files in the body folder.

I bought the dataport lights but have the old parts 5 and 6 printed and the body is already glued, would it be possible to just get the back part in one piece so I can cut out replace it?

You can send me the file on the back panel, I have already printed parts 2.1 and 2.2 and I want to see if it is possible to modify, thanks

Will do

Can you post the Fusion 360 file for these two parts? I want to make the light panel as a separate piece. That way I can customize it once I get my CBI lights, and install it later. I already performed this modification on the Ring2- 5/6 parts These parts are holding up the assembly of my body and I would like to move forward with main body construction and painting while I wait for the lights to arrive. Thanks.

Nope, but it will do. Will release a new charge bay section soon.

I have ordered the glynharper CBI and Dataport logic lights. I noticed there is an optional Opening Charge Port rings 1-2 (with I have printed out.) Does this option support the Charge Bay Indicator lights?

Hi, yes, these parts have recently been tweaked. I now use fusion and exporting they don’t lie flat directly from the programme. You just use ‘place surface on bed’ or whatever it’s called in your slicer function to lay the flat bit with notches in the print bed, same orientation as the other parts, just need to move it in the slicer and all will print fine.

I am printing R2D2 and am starting the second ring. I noticed that you posted new STLs for mb2-1,2,5 and 6. It is probably me but the edge I normally place on the bed is not flat. This is the side with the notches in it to match up with the next piece. Any help with what I am doing wrong would be appreciated.

Dave Weindel

Yeah, that’s it.

Hey Michael was at Comicon in KC this weekend and spoke to the R2 Builders Club members from the Area. They are very impressed with your work.

Thank you very much. Having a little trouble visualizing that but I think I got it. Like this? <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/ujgemajjy7ulzc1/Screenshot%202018-02-19%2019.17.29.png?dl=0" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.dropbox.com/s/ujgemajjy7ulzc1/Screenshot%202018-02-19%2019.17.29.png?dl=0</a>

Haha dude, I don’t care if you revise all day long! That’s the fun of this hobby and your works incredible! Thanks again for all you do for this community man. 3d printing has absolutely enabled me to do a lot more than was possible in the past.

Thanks, it really helps when someone has had a successful print and shares the orientation that worked for them. Saves a lot of failed prints :)

Peter Richards

Yeah, it’s not the easiest print. I printed with the side of the data port opening flat on the bed, so the rear with the details was probably around 80-90 degrees up with supports.
