MKIII Body update

Hey, I've spent most of today on the MKIII, 3 ring body. I was working on the split design and making it into a single body and then cutting it. Hit loads of issues with support and there's also a few things I wanted to fix (including simplifying the door hinges amongst others) as well as incorporating the 70 degree support and loads of stuff I learn't since I designed the body. So I decided the start afresh and make this another leap forward in terms of printing rather than a redo of the ver2 design. It is still modular and will work with the vast majority of the ver2 parts (domes, legs etc). Looking at it I can make much more room inside, simplify the doors and add quite a bit of other features. Downside is that it'll take a bit more time. I've also got a few more domes to update to MKIII, which I'd strongly suggest taking a look at as I'm really pleased with the ease of printing!

Happy printing,

Mike

MKIII Body update

Just starting a build. Does anyone have estimates on how many roles an entire r2 takes. Cheers.

As always love your work Mich! Very much appreciate what your doing and after seeing all the CR-10 500mm stuff I know what i'm buying next... lol

Hi, this body is still under design, as you can imagine the body is a fairly big piece of work. I’m doing smaller parts like the full domes and working on longer term designs like the new body and 2-3-2 mechanism. The longer term designs do take a couple of printed versions to get right and lots of detail / design as you can imagine.

Where can I find the files? Haven't checked the updates out in awhile. Can not locate the patreon folder?

I created a servo mount for the data panel. In my design I installed the servo before attaching rings one and two. As luck would have it, that servo went dead after four days of heavy use at Dragon*Con. I guess with your new design it would be possible to have more room to open this location up to make servo replacement easier. For what it is worth, here is what I did <a href="https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2980988." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2980988.</a> I used a brass rod as the printed one was a little too wobbly.

That’s the plan :-)

Can you add spots for servos for the charge bay and data panel?

Timothy Hebel

I'm putting printing the body off until this is done. Plenty of other parts to work through :)

Ok I just started the 9 Piece bottom ring and thought I could just wait till your done with the 3 part body vs printing the small parts.

Cool! The 500 printers are superb. It’s hard when I look at new module designs as I know people are partway though the build. It’ll take me a while to get this body done, it isn’t a quick job like the domes, there’s so much to consider with panels, leg mounts etc.

Michael Baddeley

Lol ok I was not meaning to print the middle and top together and I just got my 500 printer just so I can print the rest

Brandon Peden

The new three ring body unfortunately isn’t just linking the parts together, it’s a design for the 500 bed specifically. The existing design / frame works as it is, but to print the middle ring and top ring the orientation makes for a huge amount of support material. I can release the top two rings as a single print but they aren’t easy to print on this orientation as they are designed to be printed piece by piece sorry.

Michael Baddeley

So I have the skirt, the body plate done and the first ring of the body done. I just want to make sure that the new one piece middle and top ring are going to match with the bottom body ring
