With this new wrinkle, I wonder if he really does have prejudice against infernals or he fears being outed by one.

Celestial scholars pretty much stole sacred texts and spells from infernals. They are the highest members of the society - and definitely a bit of a cult. Etty got away from it years ago with Song’s help.

How fascinating!!! Is this why things are ‘complicated’ between them… or is there any kind of potential romantic feelings shared between them?

Hi, sorry if this has already been asked. But what are celestial scholars? Are they human, infernal or something else? I'm asking because I thought humans think magic is a no no, so thought they were special infernals or a third group. But then it dawned on me the other day Etty didn't have horns so she probably isn't infernal and I haven't stopped wondering since

Is Thomas in the main book as well? I'm still annoyed with him for telling Song about Mansa's feelings and the contract (and would love to see how Mansa handles their next conversation), but I don't want to see the last of him either. He seems to mean well for Mansa, and more complicated than expected, so I hope he sticks around.

Ooo this is so interesting. Kind of off the story but I wonder what kind of judge Thomas would be with his background. Like we know he has some prejudice against infernals in relationships but I wonder if he’d be more or less sympathetic with criminal cases like what happened to Song

Whiteley, I hope you know I’m already setting money aside to buy this in print. The whole saga. From soup to *cough* nut.

You said once that prejudice was getting slightly better in the characters’ future. Would this be because one judge, possibly council member, is married to a conjuring infernal and another has come out of the closet?

I mean the answer is obvious but it pisses me off just like it does in the RW

Whiteley, as a judge shouldn’t his allegiance lie with justice for all, or is the system rigged like Song said it was?

It would definitely make it difficult to continue on his chosen path. I won’t say impossible, just never done before and he would likely be met with a lot of pushback. His ability to conjure would not affect what he could do as a judge at all, but his blood would make (stupid) people wonder about where his allegiance lies

Hey WF, in this world I’m unclear how magic is viewed. Obviously scholars are venerated, but infernals are pariahs. Would magic make Thomas unable to serve a judge or a similar position? Or is it a blood status (see what I did there) thing?

Poor Thomas, it sounds like this is making him suffer a lot... I'm so glad he found Etty, I'm sure she will do anything she can to help him! And Whiteley this story gets more and more intriguing with every panel, I can't even express how invested I am at this point, thank you so much!!

This won’t come up until later but Thomas’ case is very unusual. Normally any kind of magic will lie dormant in an infernal unless they are trained - even Song would have no power if not for Etty. They can do little things like hexing or simple light tricks on their own, but Thomas is really far beyond that. He is accidentally using magic completely unintentionally, he physically can’t stop himself.

For context (I probably missed this at some point 🤦🏼♀️)... How do the powers manifest? As in... What infernalness needs surpressing?
