Charge per video or per month?
Added 2020-09-30 11:47:48 +0000 UTCI'm considering to switch from charging per video to per month, but I'm really on the fence about this, so I'd be interested how you feel about it.
I'm generally pretty happy with "per video" because charging you only when I've actually released a video seems like a fair deal to me. However, there are some reasons why "per month" might be better:
- No rush: It would allow me to work on a video for as long as is necessary without feeling the need to rush to get it out by a certain date. I try to put out the best videos I can anyway, but this would give me a bit of extra time to make sure every little detail is top-notch.
- Longer videos: I might make some longer videos in the future, which would take me significantly more than one month to finish. I've dismissed longer videos in the past because I knew that it was financially unwise to put much more work into a ten minute project and still get paid the same as for a three minute project.
- Quick videos in between: I really enjoy making quick, lower-effort videos in between more time-consuming and polished ones, but I did not charge you for those in the past, since I feel that only high-quality stuff has earned your money. With monthly payments, I'd be able to squeeze in these little videos every once in a while without worrying too much about meeting a timeline for the next "real" video.
- Subtitles?: I could take a workday to enter and time subtitles in English and German (possibly both standard German and dialect) if that's something y'all are interested in.
So, that's the situation. Your input would be highly appreciated.

2020-10-01 23:12:02 +0000 UTCI'll join.everyone else here. I prefer paying per month because it allows me to know just how much I'll pay and when - I still remember university and budgeting down to the pound (that feels like forever ago!), it's more of a peace of mind thing now. This second point, however, I consider more important. I don't see myself as paying for your videos. Much like you said, different videos require different levels of investment and charging differently for small or big videos isn't something that Patreon allows (regardless of whether or not that'd even be a good thing). I like to think that I'm paying you for the work you put into the channel. The effort behind videos may vary, but procrastination aside a month's work is a month's work, whether it's two three minute videos or a single five minute one, etcetera.
2020-10-01 22:14:43 +0000 UTCThanks for the offer, but subtitles unfortunately can't be added by the community any longer, so one needs to have direct acces to the video to change them. Will have to do them on my own from now on.

2020-09-30 18:05:51 +0000 UTCI would prefer per month, and if you want I can do the English subtitles for you.
2020-09-30 17:06:10 +0000 UTCI can afford a dollar per month, so I let it up to the rest of the patreons

2020-09-30 13:14:06 +0000 UTCI voted in favor of a monthly fee mainly because I think it gives you, as a creator, more flexibility. And that can only amount to better output. I am however fine with both methods.

2020-09-30 12:07:08 +0000 UTCI massively prefer per month. I know exactly when I have to pay, and it's a no frills and no surprises experience.
