Look what I found!

... I found the obvious thing: watercolour pencils! *rofl*

There have been a number of people who said: "Okay, so if you can't use watercolour anymore, but recently fell in love with coloured pencils, have you tried watercolour pencils?!" - to which obvious solution I used to reply that, of course I had, but hated them. From when I last used them twenty-two years ago. So plainly, there was no need to give them another try.

Yeah right. I'm an idiot.

They still frustrate me ever so slightly in the tiny details, but look! =D Back in 2000, when I last tried watercolour pencils, I'm fairly sure I neither had very good pencils NOR very good watercolour paper NOR twenty years of experience with watercolour under my belt, and could someone please smack me because I'm such a stubborn little idiot. Aaah, that's better. ;)

The background here is a regular watercolour wash, then the figures are 90% Dürer watercolour pencils and about 10% Polychromos. They combine so well and I've found just the perfect paper that works for both the Polys and the Dürers!

I've also found the absolute BEST way ever to do hair. Period. Do swooshy lines with Polychromos (which are waterproof), then gently draw some watercolour pencil in a different colour over that, and watch the magic happen when you dissolve it. It makes me so happy. <3
