(Mini Review!) ExcelsiorCustoms / PickleCustoms - Manchester Black
Added 2025-10-28 00:00:02 +0000 UTCThis was an interesting one to try and get a hold of! PickleCustoms chose to sell this fig via Instagram DMs rather than a full on release to resellers. No shame in that, but from what I gather, there weren’t very many made!
There’s no collectors card to confirm any kind of number, but the consensus was limited. Especially given the great price point of $50, I could see these going fast if there was ever a fully broad release.
My speculation is that it has to do with the “custom?” hair… but we’ll talk about that in a sec…
Anyway, on to the fig! Because it’s pretty solid!
Not only did Pickle/Excelsior give us a comic accurate head and hair, but also the animated movie version as well! His wild hair and big ass mouth are honstly more of how I picture him personally, so that’s great! Plus! We were lucky enough to get a second expression too!
Ironically though, the comic accurate head almost works better for Lex Luthor in some ways 😆
The hair is great! They’re quite literally just Official Lego hair pieces in new colors! That’s honestly how I wish 90% of custom minifig hair pieces should be! No need to bump up prices with funky looking hair that I’ll just swap out eventually anyway!
It’s no doubt why the fig was limited though given how hair like this can be sourced. It’s commonly made by Lego Factory workers with down time, who later sell them with a markup. Not many batches get made, ergo the logic of where my brain goes to assume why this fig was limited to begin with!
I really quite like this fig! It’s well designed and not overly complex. The character design does lend itself positively to the minifigure medium so that certainly helps too!
The details that are included are solid! Nice and bright whites, the red is good, the blue is a little dark for me personally, and the rest is great! Honestly this lil guy’s biggest charm comes from the fact that he’s a new character in my collection! :)
Christo of course made one years back that never really jived with me. The dark grey base plastic, and the weird hair piece… nah! Not for me!
But this new one! This is good stuff! Goooood stuff!
