It’s also the one they shot in 3D, which means about half the movie is people awkwardly pointing sticks, yo-yos, and eyeballs directly at the camera like they’re auditioning for a theme park ride.
We’re back at Crystal Lake (or near it, again, because nobody learns), and wouldn’t you know it—another group of sexy, mildly annoying teens shows up, ready to get murdered in the order of their horniness. The new crew includes: a Final Girl with trauma (check), a stoner duo (check), a prankster no one likes (check), and a biker gang, because… sure? The plot is once again "Don’t go in the barn," and naturally, everyone goes in the barn.
Jason, now looking like a department store mannequin with rage issues, is in full form—silent, efficient, and inventing new ways to weaponize random hardware. Pitchforks, fire pokers, a harpoon gun in 3D—the man’s basically an off-brand Home Depot mascot with murder on his mind. He’s still more human here, running and bleeding and occasionally fumbling, but you can see the unkillable monster taking shape.
The kills? Brutal and inventive, if you're into that sort of thing. The 3D gimmick makes some of them hilariously absurd (that eyeball pop!), but honestly, that’s part of the charm. This one’s less scary and more popcorn-splattering fun. It’s goofy. It’s dated. But it’s also the movie where Jason becomes Jason—and that’s worth the price of admission.
Friday the 13th Part 3 isn’t the best in the franchise, but it’s the most in some very important ways. Most gimmicks. Most questionable fashion choices. Most iconic mask reveal. And probably the most times you’ll yell, “Why are you walking backwards into the dark!?” at the screen. It's gloriously dumb, endlessly watchable, and 100% essential to the legend.
