EARLY ACCESS ~ STRANGER THINGS S5E1

Right out of the gate, the episode makes it clear: this is not the “kids on bikes” era anymore. Everyone’s older, angrier, and walking around with the weight of Vecna’s cliffhanger still chewing at them. The emotional hangover from Season 4 is everywhere—especially with Eleven and Will. And speaking of Will… yes, they’re finally letting him talk like a human being with interiority instead of “the kid who gets kidnapped or twitches when the Mind Flayer sneezes.”

The vibes are classic Stranger Things but grown up: the spooky small-town unease is back, the Upside Down bleed-through is escalating, and the show is planting so many ominous seeds you just know they’re going to sprout into something awful by mid-season. And Episode 1 absolutely gives you that “oh crap, the end is coming” dread in the best possible way.

The core cast? Locked in. Everyone feels like they’ve stepped up—especially the OGs. Dustin is still the emotional glue, Lucas feels more grounded and layered than ever, and Hopper… Hopper is giving worn-down dad-warrior energy that hits way too hard. And yes, the episode does a very good job setting up who might not survive this season. You can feel the chess pieces moving.

The monster teases are legit creepy, the mystery threads start immediately, and the tone tells you we are not getting a happy little detour season—this is the beginning of the end.

It’s tense, cinematic, beautifully paced, and dripping in that Spielberg-Amblin nightmare sauce the show does best. If Episode 1 is any hint, Season 5 is going to break hearts, break Hawkins, and break Twitter for at least three months straight.

If you’re here for us losing our minds over the twists, screaming at the screen, and pointing at every easter egg like caffeinated conspiracy theorists? Oh yeah. We’re already warmed up.
