July challenge: Abandoned places
Added 2025-07-02 13:05:48 +0000 UTCThis month's theme is all about mood, storytelling and decay. Your task is to draw or paint an environment that feels abandoned - forgotten by people.
Create a scene or a place that was once full of life, but is now empty, and rundown. Some potential ideas:
- old train station reclaimed by nature
- dusty bedroom, with some personal belongings scattered all across the scene
- crumbling and rusty amusement park
- abandoned church or a castle
- creepy abandoned hospital
You can make it quiet and nostalgic, eerie or mysterious, it can be creepy, unsettling, or even hopefull like someone is about to return, and restore everything.
Focus of the challenge:
- Moody lighting- is it dimly lit and moody, foggy, or is it harshly lit by sunlight?
- storytelling- maybe some left behind objects, damage, cracks, graffiti or any sign of somebody who used to be there, how would nature take over ( maybe some vines are crawling on the walls and trough the cracks)
Deadline: till the end of July
You can do it in your own style, it can be sketchy, or painterly, basically anything that feels good to you.
