Movie Selection Poll

For the watch party (date/time still TBA), I have a few ideas floating around for some old school movie viewing. Let me know which one you guys would be into the most, and I'll get things arranged.

Comments

yeah agreed. I'm a big fan of it.

I'm surprised Public Enemy hasn't gotten more votes. One of the great canon of gangster movies, it made James Cagney a star and the ending is just as chilling as any moment in any other gangster film.

Admittedly not the biggest fan of The Public Enemy, outside of Cagney’s great performance. I’ve never seen the original Scarface, so that sounds intriguing. I’m a big Bogart fan, and In a Lonely Place is one of his best (more so than Treasure of the Sierra Madre, it really digs into the darker aspects of his persona), so that’d be great to see again. But I’m ultimately voting for An American in Paris. I’ve only seen a handful of Minnelli films (The Clock being my favorite), and he’s always been one of the Old Hollywood directors I’ve been interested in, so I think seeing another one of his films for the first time to be the best choice, especially one of his musicals. But hey, I’m down with watching any one of the four films. I’m just glad this watch party is coming together.

Bennett Oliver

All good choices and I've seen each one many times but In a Lonely Place easily trumps the rest as the other three have some dated elements to them. As fun as An American in Paris is, the story is pretty thin and it doesn't have the charm, chemistry, and humor to make up for it like Singin' in the Rain does.

Love both Scarface and In A Lonely Place. I’m down with either Public Enemy or An American in Paris since I haven’t seen either.

Stephen

Been meaning to see An American in Paris and think that would be fun to watch with the king of cheesy mid-century musicals
