April Films

What films are you guys looking forward to in April? Finally things will start to get more interesting. I'm sure Aster's film will be at the top of some lists here.

Huh, I thought his name sounded familiar (as the guy who married NP; didn’t know he was a dancer). Looks like he made a cool, operatic dance movie that, based on the trailer, has the potential to be great. We’ll see how he is as a director.

millepied is a ballet dancer, and was formerly part of NYCB, who I have followed for years. He's married to Natalie Portman as well. They met on Black Swan.

Beau is Afraid is definitely on my list, but there were a few others that looked good. Air—Ben Affleck’s new movie starring Matt Damon about Nike’s creation of the Air Jordan. Surprised it took this long for Affleck to direct a film with his longtime buddy. Renfield—no way am I missing Nicolas Cage play Dracula. R.M.N.—don’t know much about this one, but it’s the latest film by the Romanian director Cristian Mungiu, who made a great film called 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days. It’s in limited release, but hopefully I’ll be able to see it. Carmen—described as a musical drama from first-time director Benjamin Millepied. Supposedly based on the famous opera of the same name, though the title is, I think, the only thing they have in common. The premise seems to be about a Border Patrol guard played by Paul Mescal who falls in love with an illegal immigrant played by Melissa Barrera who together go on the run. The trailer looks interesting. Lots of dancing set to an intense dramatic tone.

Suzume, the new Makoto Shinkai film, is coming out April 14! Your Name and Weathering With You were gorgeously animated, and both make me cry every rewatch, so I’m extremely excited to see Suzume on the big screen.

You're very much right. Love both of his first movies and this one looks very interesting. Evil Dead Rise looks like it could be some squishy possession fun Are Your There God It's Me Margaret purely because I really enjoyed the director's previous movie Edge of Seventeen Renfield could be fun. Love Nicholas Holt and enjoy a zany Nic Cage performance so why not? How to Blow Up a Pipeline looks kind of intense and I might peep it if it's nearby And I'm probably in the minority but I can see myself having a lot fun with the Mario movie.
