Added 2023-06-23 23:03:47 +0000 UTCSo the animators are complaining about the exhaustive working conditions during Across the Spiderverse. And....yeah....duh. I was waiting for something like this to come out. There's...no way that wasn't the case, based on the final product. I spent so much of that movie with my mouth wide open, just shocked at the amount of work that could've gone into it hypothetically. I was picturing something like 2,000 animators working on it at once. Felt beyond human, more like AI, and I've never seen anything like it. So, I'm not surprised at all by that bit of info.

Yeah and the updated new LAst of Us Part I also had so many issues. I've been playing it and yeah, for sure it's a bit of a mess. Seems they couldnt meet the deadline, and there's a lot of that lately. I feel like we've capped so far as what humans can do unless you overwork them. But with AI that's not a problem so...seems like the logical thing to do. Can't stop AI progress, it's just gonna keep going. Might as well accept it, and start looking for another job....until the job you choose...also gets taken over by AI ><

2023-06-27 01:12:55 +0000 UTCI find this animation to be the best I've ever seen from an American animation studio. I think because it reflects everything from the simple to the complex. But yes, the trailer for this doesnt do it justice at all. Gotta see it in its entirety.

2023-06-27 01:11:12 +0000 UTCI haven’t seen the film yet, but the animation looks insane from the trailers. I feel like too many animators today are torturing their staff by trying to “push” for that next extreme phase of animation, but is it really worth it? Maybe but I think I prefer simplicity in my animation and then the complexities can come through that simplicity. If that makes sense. That’s why I’m a big fan of Studio Ghibli, because they can balance epic stories that still feel simple in the best ways. This is random but even one of my favorite shows ever, The Simpsons, has such a simple style but the earlier seasons have so much heart and depth. They also found commercial success and critical acclaim from the simplicity. I’m sure that show had a positive work environment. I wish we would bring back that positivity to the work force in animation.

2023-06-24 00:42:58 +0000 UTCYeah I'm not surprised either. I have a friend in the industry who tells me a lot and it looks bleak for jobs right now. A lot of cuts on the way due to budget issues and lack of success of certain projects. Regardless though, I really loved the movie and definitely consider among my favorites of the year if not my current favorite.

I'm aware of how many entertainment companies operate on crunch schedules which I am incapable of understanding why it's endorsed by such a large number of them. As someone who's had multiple retail jobs with crap management, I'm always irritated when the well being of employees is an afterthought especially if the product or service is subpar.

2023-06-24 00:36:11 +0000 UTCIt reminds me of when The Last of Us Part II came out and the animators slammed Naughty Dog for the grueling hours and conditions they were forced to work to get it out to market on time. When you play the game and notice the insane amount of attention to every aspect of the world and it’s characters, you know that a ton of hours went into making it. You can feel it in every painstaking detail. And given how companies so value expediency given how competitive the video game market is, I wasn’t surprised that the animators were forced to work round the clock. And yeah, I was going to mention how Marvel used AI to create their opening credit intro for Secret Invasion. And I hate to say it, but it looks…alarmingly good. Animators are in a really shit position right now where they need to take work where they can get it, and the production companies have all the leverage. AI is only going to become more popular for producing creative content.
