Patton's Closet Picks

I love the closet picks criterion series as many of you know. I was very happy to see Patton Oswalt on most recently. I may not be a huge fan of his work as a comedian, nor do we agree on a lot of issues...but, I like him a lot, and he's the kind of guy I'd really like to get to know and talk about life with. He also really knows his movies. A closet picks with him needs to be 30 minutes long lol. But yeah, hope you guys enjoy it if you haven't seen it yet.

Yes! That would be awesome. I would just love an in-depth analysis/your take on the film in some way.

I am working on a Diablo Cody review but, sadly not Young Adult. I should make an underrated list and put that one on there.

Deepfocuslens

yes, that's much better.

Personally, I would replace “brainwashed” with “hyper partisan”

Henri J. Mertens

a very lucky role

Yeah I mean...I tend to lean liberal just in philosophy as a person. But I find the pendulum so extreme these days that I find myself taking things on a basis by basis stance. I find I have many liberal stances but also conservative stances. I think it's important to have a bit of both, and understand both arguments respectfully.

A deep tragedy. I'm so happy he was able to find new love.

Deepfocuslens

Yeah, that's part of my struggles with him. But...as a person, when putting aside differences, I quite like him. I think he's just a little brainwashed. But so many in Hollywood are. He's definitely one of the more well-adjusted ones overall I'd say.

So I've seen Young Adult probably around 8 times. I watched it the other day actually. I agree I think it's a very underrated film. Deeply sad.

I’d love to see you do a review of Young Adult. It’s one of those 2000s-esque movies that’s a dark, dark film with comedic elements. Ever since your review of Observe and Report, I’ve been dying for more reviews of so-called “prickly” movies, one that are sometimes easy to write off.

Shane Palamara

I love his comedy. He's clearly a smart and thoughtful guy. Too bad about his cultural stance, which is the worst sort of hateful sneering and contempt for half the country. But off that soapbox, he's a decent and interesting fellow. Thanks for this link DeepFocusLens!

I thought it was incredible how after having a heated debate with a trump supporter on twitter, he ended up donating money to the man’s go fund for me for his medical expenses.

Henri J. Mertens

Yes! One False Move is an all time classic! Siskel and Ebert introduced me to it when they had it on their Best of 1992 show.

Wolfman Brandon

Everything I've seen with him, he always comes off as genuinely kind and empathetic. I think also with all the tragedy in his life, I also just find the way he navigated that especially with a daughter to be so touching.

Tyler Shobe

He made some really interesting picks, thanks for sharing! Personally, on paper I agree with Oswalt on many issues, but yeah, he’s pretty neoliberal and virtue signals a lot. But it’s interesting, while I enjoy a lot of transgressive movies, I tend to have a bit of a conservative personality, even though I’m nowhere near conservative politically.

Henri J. Mertens

I won’t ever be able to unhear him as Remy from Ratatouille
