This movie will probably always be known for its brutality, and for good reason. But to me, what has always suck out and is still what I love about it the most is how beautiful it is. The way it captures rural Texas really just emphasizes the natural beauty of its barren landscapes.
I've had a similar relationship with this movie where it's taken me a bit to fully come around on it but I'm totally on the TCM train now. Such a peerless, often replicated never duplicated sort of movie.

One of my favorite things in the best horror films is when they decide not to use music during the horrifying moments to make them feel more genuine and this one excels at that. Also, that dude's body twitching on the floor during the first sledgehammer kill really sells it.
