Visiting The Og Texas Chainsaw Massacre House

Got Halloween themed posts on the brain, for obvious reasons. I live semi-close to both the original 1974 TCM house and the one from the 2003 film version. Honestly, the new one is closer but...I say fuck that. First off...you can't get anywhere near it. There's a sign outside that states very clear to stay off their private property, or else you might get shot lol. So you can only photograph it from a distance. But secondly...why go see the new when you could see the old? The new house is too obvious in how threatening and menacing it wants to be on the exterior. No suspense. But the original is far more terrifying. You look at that quaint little white house and you'd have no idea what horrors actually took place inside, and it's terrifying af when it's all revealed. Also...the cast and crew utilized the whole inside of the house for the shoot, not just the exteriors. So I thought it would be fun to see how they remodeled the inside, since it's now an upscale bar and cafe, lol.

The house has been moved to a different location from the original shoot. And I have a feeling its leaned more into the TCM gift shop gimmicks since I went, which was a few years ago. I actually appreciated at the time, that there were very few references to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the outside and inside. Some photos on the wall upstairs from the production shoot, maybe a shirt or two you could buy in the corner, but really that was it. I find it funny that so much of the layout has remained exactly the same. Hard to walk in and not instantly picture Leatherface at the end of the hall with his hammer. The dinner seating area is right where they had the uh..."family dinner" scene (><). Which I found ironic. That scene made me lose my appetite pretty quick the first time I ever saw it. But yeah...the fridge is in the back in the same place where the kitchen is, upstairs is now a bar. It's cute. And again, way more satisfying that you can really peruse the whole place if you want, unlike a lot of more expensive production locations. But, TCM was so low budget, that of course they made use of all they could. Glad it's still fairly hidden away and not too touristy. But thought I'd show you some picks for the Halloween occasion.
