I was morbidly (Morbiusly?) curious and saw Madame Web this afternoon. It really is awful. But it’s in a bland and underwhelming way - it didn’t actively piss me off like The Marvels did. Although, the acting by the villain is seriously the worst performance in a comic book movie I’ve seen in years. And it’s kind of shocking because it’s the lead actor from “A Prophet”.

2024-02-10 16:20:03 +0000 UTCI try to keep up with the near endless torrent of superhero films/shows even though I'm pretty much bored of them, I'm really glad that Disney Marvel are only putting out one film this year (Deadpool 3) as it really does need break. I think Joker 2 is the only other superhero related film this year that I have genuine interest in. I vaguely recall the character of Madame Web appearing in a couple of episodes of one of the 90's Spiderman cartoons but it seemed crazy to me that they would make this over either Spider-Girl/Spider-Woman/Spider-Gwen cause when this bombs it will most likely kill any future female lead spider-person films for a while, also the trailer didn't pique my interest. I heard that they have a review embargo which is always a bad sign. I'll probably check it out eventually on streaming.

2024-02-09 22:33:35 +0000 UTCWhen I think of Dakota Johnson, I think of Fifty Shades of Grey. The only action she’s seen in a movie is in the sack. I think she’s woefully miscast. And I echo Wolfman’s sentiments on Disney properties. I’ve avoided most every Disney Marvel (and generally all Disney) releases for the past 4 years. That will continue with this garbage.

2024-02-09 19:21:18 +0000 UTCI'm no comic book guy but I've played Spiderman Shattered Dimensions on Xbox 360 to know who the character is and that this is another adaptation where it looks like they just made another film that has little to do with the character and slapped the name on it to sucker fans in. Being modern Disney, I'm hardly surprised.
