JOKER 2

What did you guys think of the trailer? I waited for the musical genre to become the one that highlights the cinematic language the best in modern day. Feels like we are there for some years now. This one had me intrigued. I made a video on it years ago when I learned about it. I'm not a big fan of the jukebox musical as a vehicle, but here I'm very interested in what they will do with it.

It seems like another vehicle for Lady Gaga to be in the Best Actress discussion during the next awards season. As for the movie itself, idk…seems like La La Land for Dummies in the same way Taxi Driver was for the first movie. Might see it, might not.

I am skeptical for sure. For multiple reasons. But I'm definitely interested, and it's a bold idea. The trailer is quite good. But I haven't had my hopes up. I'm still interested. More so than I was with the first one.

I have the same concerns.

lol, yeah I'm sure it's all in Joker's mind

That’s one thing I noticed about Joker too. Very broad strokes when exploring mental illness, class upheaval, etc. I kind of always thought that that was a conscious decision by Phillips so the exploration of these subjects will connect more easily to a wider audience. This is still a major studio film after all. I could be wrong though. Interested in this nonetheless!

It looks like La La Land for people who hear voices……I’m in lol

I think the trailer was strong and the film has such great potential, I'm quietly optimistic on this one - even if it doesn't quite work I still think it will become a cult favourite. But I think it will work - they've basically had five years to put it together right and I expect that to pay off.

Looks interesting although I do share the skepticism of those above. I have a feeling Gaga will make it a lot more fun than the previous movie although I did enjoy it, at times it was almost too monotonous in its tone. I imagine at the very least we'll get some fun set pieces but whether it'll come together as a whole, obviously remains to be seen.

I want to believe that Todd Phillips will use this opportunity to go further than he did in the first Joker and make something truly disturbing, audacious, and transgressive—an MGM musical gone psycho (which, given their vivid, overripe imagery and frenetic, exuberant energy, they always had the potential to become). But…I don’t think Philips knows how or is willing to do that. What he’ll most likely do is take past acclaimed and/or controversial works and repackage them. Just as the first Joker used Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, this one will use Umbrellas of Cherbourg and Natural Born Killers. You’ll watch it and get only an idea of what a bold piece of art should be. So yes, I’m skeptical.

Looks interesting, very cool ending. This movie has potential to be really something.

The problem is that it's a Todd Phillips film. He only works in broad strokes because that's what made his Hangover films and the first Joker so successful. I don't see this as anything more than a gimmick.
