Pendant

It was so easy to feel so tired. So sleepy. Like all of the energy was being drained out of you. Like all that was keeping you up was the swinging pendant, going back and forth. Their voice was reinforcing the idea. You knew that when the pendant dropped, so would you.
But it kept swinging. And no matter how much your eyelids fluttered, how much relaxation you felt, how blank your mind became, your eyes could not close. They could not look away from the pendant. And that was okay. It felt good to watch the pendant.
But it felt nowhere near as good as when they let the pendant drop. And all of that relaxation overwhelmed you. Plunging you deep, deep into trance. So far, and so fast. Your mind was gone, your body was floating, and all that was left was their voice.
