A story about being brainwashed and dronified by your local gym!

“Okay, well, we offer a range of packages here at Gymnosis. So, if you could tell me a little bit about what you want out of your exercise regime, I can recommend the right package for you.” The receptionist waited for you to answer, but there was something stopping you.

You couldn’t tell what, but as you watched the people around the gym, something felt… Off. They were on the machines, blank looks on their faces, letting out soft moans of pleasurable exertion, and behind it all was a faint buzzing that made it so hard to think.

You were feeling dizzy. The receptionist must have noticed, because they came round the desk and steadied you with a firm, but gentle hand. “Hey, are you okay? Do you need to sit down?” You nodded. “Come on through to the back room, you can take a moment there.”

They lead you through to a room that was bathed in a soft, soothing glow, and was just warm enough to let you begin to unwind. That odd buzzing – no, humming, was here as well. It actually felt quite pleasant to listen to, as it vibrated through your mind.

You took a moment to look around, and saw out of the window some people on ellipticals, and bikes, all with the same blank smile plastered on their faces, all watching the small screens on their machines, that seemed to pulse with light.

That feeling of something being off had lessened. That seemed totally normal. Of course they were happy. The bliss of exertion, the satisfaction of strengthening their bodies.

Of being good puppets.

Wait. Had you thought that?

You hadn’t noticed the receptionist, still standing, watching you, looking concerned. They were offering a glass of water to you, which you took, and sipped, thankfully. You were feeling less dizzy now. Instead, you were feeling floaty, open.

As the receptionist took the empty glass from you, they started talking to you in a soft, gentle tone. Wouldn’t you like to be like those people out there? Of course you would. They have just the package for you, a good gym drone…
