Puzzled

Your hypnotist wants you to complete some puzzles. Of course, they won't make it easy...

* * *

“So, when the sand begins to run out of the hourglass, you’ll begin to feel your mind draining away with it. your ability to think, and reason, all of your intellect reducing and crumbling away. And whilst it does…” They placed three pairs of metal shapes on the table.

“I want you to separate these. If you fail… Let’s say there’ll be a punishment. Off. You. Go!” They flipped the hourglass. The sand began to trickle away. You quickly moved to start on the first one. You could already feel your thoughts beginning to drain.

But you did it quickly enough. You looked at the hourglass, and felt your mind fill with a haze. You picked up the second pair. It felt clunky, as you tried to take it apart, your mind growing ever hazier, ever foggier, as your brain drained away.

It was getting harder to focus on the steps needed to separate the pieces. Just like it was getting harder to think. You stole a glance at your hypnotist, who was smiling at you, mischief etched onto their face. “Keep going toy, come on.” They said.

You finally managed to separate the second pair, and, as you looked at the hourglass, you saw that it was nearly empty. Your brain felt like it was filled with molasses. Impossible to move. No thoughts. No sense of anything, but mindlessness. You picked up the third pair.

There was something you were meant to do… Something… You tried to think, but that was too hard to do. You gently pulled at them with your hands, but, that didn’t feel right either. The hourglass was empty, just like your mind. No thoughts. No brain. Just blank.

You held the objects out to your hypnotist, who took them, smiling still. “Awh, sweetie. Can’t do it? That’s okay.” They came over to you, holding you close. “Now, I did say there was going to be a punishment. It’s very simple. I want you to put those two pairs back together.”
