Some Temporary Changes
Added 2015-11-12 05:05:32 +0000 UTCIt's come to my attention that there are bots out there that sign up as patrons to people's Patreons in order to mine them for the patron-only content and mirror them on third party websites. Luckily, I don't really have a paywall for any of Four-Letter Word's actual content, so this has affected me very little, but it has cleared up some things I had been wondering about. Both the number of downloads for builds while they are in their patron-only week and participation in polls was far greater in number than the number of patrons at those tiers, and now I know why.
Previously, I have been giving patrons with declining pledges a grace period of a month or two with a polite message informing them of their declined status before removing them. Since I've realized a number of these are just bots, I'm going to be removing accounts with declined pledges right away. Please make sure your payment info is correct so this does not affect you! As I understand it, Patreon is working on changing their billing procedure to charge for the first month right away and keep patron-only content locked until at least the first payment has been processed successfully, but until then, this is what I'll have to do. In addition, I'll be giving links to the polls directly to patrons of the proper tier with at least one approved payment instead of in the Patreon posts until the change occurs.
